Is a perforated eardrum considered a minor injury? What should I pay attention to?

Eardrum perforation is a type of middle ear trauma, and many people do not take it seriously. Is a perforated eardrum considered a minor injury? This is something that many people tend to overlook. Although eardrum perforation is a minor injury, it can still cause great harm if not treated in time and will have a certain impact on the patient's hearing.

1. As long as there is no secondary infection and the area of the hole is not too large, the perforation of the eardrum caused by trauma will usually heal on its own in about a month without any additional treatment. In addition to causing ear leakage and hearing impairment, the perforation of the eardrum caused by chronic otitis media also has the risk of forming cholesteatoma, so it is necessary to repair it. The ruptured eardrum can be repaired with the fascia of the temporalis muscle next to the ear, with a success rate of more than 90%. This kind of myringoplasty or tympanoplasty can eliminate ear leakage and improve hearing.

2. A perforated eardrum is a minor injury, but if the area of the perforated eardrum is relatively large, it will have a greater impact on the patient. The eardrum, also known as the tympanic membrane, is an oval, translucent membrane, mainly composed of the epithelial fiber layer. It is located at the junction of the middle ear tympanic cavity and the external ear, forming the outer wall, which is separated by the external auditory canal and the middle ear cavity, and blocks foreign objects and bacteria from entering the middle ear cavity. During the process of auditory conduction, the structure of the peritoneum can break into life and compensate for the attenuation caused by the transmission of sound.

3. This condition cannot be ignored, because the eardrum is connected to the nasal cavity and the middle ear cavity. If there is any window, a very serious upper respiratory tract infection will occur, and the secretions will easily enter the middle ear cavity, causing a serious infection and otitis media. The impact on the patient's hearing is also very huge. Trauma will mainly cause hearing loss in patients, especially ear picking, surgery, external auditory canal, foreign objects and pressure damage, which may lead to eardrum perforation.
