Signs of unsuccessful weaning

Signs of unsuccessful weaning

Although many mothers know that breast milk is the best food for babies, there are many reasons why mothers cannot feed their babies with breast milk, so they can only feed their babies with formula. As the baby grows, the formula needs to be changed. Some skills are needed when switching to formula milk for the baby. If the switch is unsuccessful, it will cause some discomfort to the baby.

Symptoms of unsuccessful weaning

1. The first signs of a baby's inability to adapt to the change in milk are physical, with common symptoms being diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, crying, allergies, etc. Among them, "diarrhea" is the most serious, while "allergy" manifests itself as itchy skin and rashes.

2. Some babies are not able to adapt to the change of milk powder due to psychological factors. Because the milk powder they are used to drinking is suddenly changed, they are at a loss and cannot adapt to the taste of the new milk powder for a while. This makes it very easy for them to develop "milk aversion" behavior and refuse to drink milk.

The baby should not change the milk frequently

1. Mothers should know that it is not advisable to change milk powder for babies frequently, as this will bring unnecessary burden to the baby's immature digestive system. Generally, babies cannot adapt and may experience diarrhea, constipation, crying, allergies, etc.

2. Infants and young children are still in the initial stage of development. Their body functions are not complete, including their digestive system. Therefore, they are more sensitive to changes in food and find it difficult to adapt to frequent changes, especially for important foods such as milk powder that they come into contact with every day. But if you have to change it, it is best to take a gradual approach.

How to change the baby's milk

1. First of all, you can’t change the milk powder directly, you have to do it slowly. For example, 3 spoons of the old and 1 spoon of the new, then slowly transition to 2 spoons of the old and 2 spoons of the new, and then later replace all with new ones. It should be done gradually and not too quickly. The whole process can take one to two weeks. Secondly, the milk powder should be changed when the baby is in normal health (no diarrhea, fever, cold, etc.). Do not change the milk powder when the baby has a rash or during vaccination. Then gradually add the new larger infant milk powder to the baby's regular meals.

2. Generally speaking, avoid changing the milk during the first meal in the morning or before going to bed at night when you start. After adding the first meal of older infant formula, allow the baby to slowly adapt before adding the second meal. Finally, it is recommended to mix it with the milk powder that is to be replaced, and gradually increase the amount of replacement milk powder to allow the baby to slowly adapt.

3. Another principle is to try to avoid too big differences between the types of milk powder you are changing. For example, if your baby was originally fed milk powder that aids digestion, it is best to consider products that appeal to digestive ability when choosing new milk powder. Because babies have weak gastrointestinal functions and are dependent on the milk products they first come into contact with, changing the brand or variety of milk powder requires a gradual adaptation process.
