What are the methods for refrigerating crabs?

Generally, we store the leftover crabs in the refrigerator. The temperature in the freezer of the refrigerator is very low and will freeze the crabs to death, affecting the taste of the crabs. However, if they are stored outside, the storage time is relatively short. If you want to enjoy the delicious taste of crabs, you should understand the correct storage method of crabs and the longest storage time. This way, you don’t eat spoiled crabs by mistake and have adverse reactions.

Crabs can be stored in the refrigerator

Crabs are fresh aquatic products with a short shelf life after leaving water. The quantity purchased should be enough to be eaten within about 3 days. Preservation is relatively simple: choose active crabs, tie up the crab's legs and claws to reduce the crab's physical consumption, then place them in the refrigerator and cover them with a wet towel for storage. When eating every day, pick out the crabs that are not energetic enough first. The crabs that are full of energy can continue to be preserved. Note: Live crabs can only be refrigerated and cannot be frozen. Freezing will kill the crabs and the aspic will have no taste at all.

How long can crabs be kept in the refrigerator?

There are two types of crabs commonly sold in the market: river crabs and sea crabs. When putting live river crabs into the refrigerator, they should be placed in the refrigerator's cold storage compartment. They can be stored for more than three to five days without dying. If the river crabs are dead, do not eat them as they can easily cause poisoning. If the sea crab is to be used within a day and a half, it can be washed or cut into two pieces, put into a plastic bag, tie the bag tightly, and store it in a lower temperature part of the refrigerator. If frozen, the crabs must be cooked, cooled to room temperature, packed in a plastic bag, tied tightly, and placed in the freezer. They can be kept fresh for 1 month.

How to preserve live crabs

Tie up the crabs and place them in the refrigerator, preferably on the shelf with the fruits. Place a wet towel on top of the crabs (do not wring it too dry) and do not fold the towels. This will save it for a while. Raise the crabs in water. If the crabs are too thin or you want to keep them for a while, you can feed them some sesame seeds or beaten eggs and add some rice wine to fatten them up. Keep it moist and it will survive for a week or two without any problem, just don't soak it in water. The breeding place is usually placed in a cement pool, sprayed with water every day, sometimes for a month or two.
