How long does it take for liver cancer to recur after ascites drainage

Patients with ascites can generally only receive symptomatic treatment. Draining the ascites can temporarily relieve abdominal pressure, but the liver function has already been decompensated. Repeated drainage of ascites will cause electrolyte and acid-base imbalance in the patient. If it is just to relieve symptoms, you can drain the ascites and replenish fluids and protein appropriately after the drainage. If no treatment is given after the drainage, the disease will generally relapse after a few hours.

The treatment plan for ascites should be determined according to the primary disease. For example, anti-tuberculosis treatment should be given for tuberculous peritonitis; surgical treatment should be given for purulent peritonitis caused by perforation of abdominal organs; and surgical resection, chemotherapy, radiotherapy or interventional treatment should be given for tumor ascites according to the condition. In addition to timely treatment, it is also necessary for patients to rest in bed, because bed rest is extremely important for the recovery of heart, liver and kidney function, which is conducive to the disappearance of ascites.

For the treatment of ascites caused by liver cancer, on the one hand, we need to treat the symptoms, that is, eliminate the pleural effusion and ascites and eliminate its squeezing on various tissues and organs; on the other hand, we also need to treat the root cause, that is, treat the liver cancer itself and gradually restore the normal function of the liver.

For patients with liver cancer complicated with ascites, the primary tumor lesions in the liver should be actively treated first. Whether the tumor lesions in the liver can be controlled directly affects the increase or decrease of ascites volume and the progression rate of the disease. Treatment for liver cancer includes surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, interventional therapy, etc. mentioned above, but they should be used with caution to prevent aggravation of liver function damage. Appropriate liver protection treatment should be given at the same time. Traditional Chinese medicine is the best liver protection treatment for liver cancer ascites.
