What is the necessity of group ac meningococcal vaccine

Group AC meningococcal vaccine is an essential vaccination, because once infected with these diseases, patients will experience problems such as high fever, headache, vomiting, and may also cause sepsis. Therefore, only timely injection of this vaccine can reduce the harm of this disease. Parents should also be reminded that children must be vaccinated in time during the time of these meningococcal vaccines.

1. Diseases that can be prevented by vaccination against meningococcal meningitis

Epidemic meningitis is a respiratory infectious disease caused by meningococcal infection of the meninges or cerebrospinal membranes. The main clinical manifestations include high fever, headache, projectile vomiting, and stiff neck. It can also cause sepsis, purple congestion and ecchymosis on the skin, and meningitis can cause brain damage, leaving sequelae such as hearing loss or deafness, and mental retardation. The mortality rate is between 5% and 10%.

Meningococcal disease occurs most frequently in winter and spring, with the number of cases generally starting to increase from November to December, and the peak period being from February to May of the following year. The disease has a high incidence rate, is highly dangerous, and is an infectious disease that seriously endangers children's health.

2. Types and specifications of meningococcal vaccines

Group A meningococcal vaccine: After vaccination, this vaccine can produce humoral immune response in the body and is used to prevent epidemic meningitis caused by group A meningococci. Since the use of meningococcal vaccine, it has played a very important role in controlling and reducing the spread of meningococcal disease, and the epidemic has been basically controlled. It is a vaccine that must be used in the basic immunization of meningococcal vaccine. The specification is 300μg polysaccharide per ampoule, and the dose per person contains 30μg.

Group A+C meningococcal vaccine: After vaccination, this vaccine can produce humoral immune response in the body and is used to prevent epidemic meningitis caused by group A and group C meningococci. Group A+C meningococcal vaccines are generally used for children or adults over 2 years old. Group A+C meningococcal vaccines should not be used for children under 2 years old. The specification is 100μg per ampoule/vial (dose for one person), containing 50μg each of group A and group C polysaccharides.

3. Time for vaccination against meningococcal disease

1. Group A meningococcal vaccine: Infants should receive the first and second doses at 6-18 months, with an interval of not less than 3 months between the two doses. The third dose should be given at 3 years of age, with an interval of not less than 1 year between the second dose and the fourth dose. Infants should receive the fourth dose at 6 years of age, with an interval of not less than 3 years between the third dose and the third dose.

2. Group A+C meningococcal vaccine: The target population is people aged 2 years and above. For those who have received one dose of group A meningococcal vaccine, the interval between the vaccinations of group A+C meningococcal vaccine and group A meningococcal vaccine must not be less than 3 months. For those who have received two or more doses of group A meningococcal vaccine, the interval between the vaccination of group A+C meningococcal vaccine and the last dose of group A meningococcal vaccine must not be less than 1 year. Vaccinate with group A+C meningococcal vaccine according to the above principles and avoid repeated vaccination within 3 years.
