Which is more harmful, dry tobacco or cigarettes

Nowadays, many people have the habit of smoking. The cigarettes we can buy in the market now are all rolled cigarettes, that is, processed cigarettes. Dry tobacco is a relatively traditional type of tobacco with a long history. Generally, after the tobacco leaves are harvested and dried, they can be crushed and wrapped in paper before smoking. Nowadays, those who still have the habit of smoking dry tobacco are all elderly people.

Which is more harmful, dry tobacco or cigarettes?

From the perspective of production technology, dry tobacco is obtained by directly exposing tobacco to the sun, while cigarettes generally go through multiple processes such as frying and baking, which results in the tar content in dry tobacco being much greater than that in cigarettes. From this perspective, there is some basis for the claim that dry tobacco is more harmful than cigarettes.

Currently, all tobacco allowed to be sold in the market in our country has been included in the Chinese Tobacco List, and this list does not contain any regulations on dry tobacco. This has led to a lack of supervision in both the production and sales of dry tobacco, so the statement that dry tobacco is more harmful than cigarettes is not groundless.

Nowadays, most people who smoke dry tobacco are old smokers in remote rural areas. They believe that this type of tobacco is more "powerful" than cigarettes. The reason why they have such a feeling is that the content of tar, nicotine and carbon monoxide in dry tobacco is much higher than that in cigarettes. These substances determine that dry tobacco is more harmful than other cigarettes.

Nowadays, there are more and more elderly people in rural areas suffering from respiratory cancers such as lung cancer. Many of these people are fond of smoking dry tobacco, which shows from another aspect that the harm of dry tobacco is indeed greater than that of cigarettes. Dry tobacco is generally cheaper, and these people think they can save money, but they end up suffering from some difficult-to-cure diseases, which is not worth it.

The dangers of smoking

Smoking causes blood clots and various heart diseases

Inhaling carbon monoxide from cigarette smoke reduces the blood's ability to absorb oxygen. Nicotine can increase the heart rate, blood pressure, weaken the heart's ability to withstand stress, myocardial hypoxia causing coronary artery infarction, and local cardiac ischemia (or angina pectoris) promotes the accumulation of atherosclerosis and the onset of many heart diseases.

Between the ages of 30 and 49, smokers are five times more likely to have a heart attack than non-smokers. People who quit smoking find that their risk of heart disease drops by half after one year.

Damage to the brain from smoking

Smoking can cause a variety of brain diseases, reduce the oxygen and blood circulation in the brain, cause bleeding and blockage of brain blood vessels, and lead to paralysis, mental decline and stroke. The cause of stroke is that smoking causes spasm of blood vessels in the brain, making the blood more likely to clot. Smokers are twice as likely to have a stroke as non-smokers.

Damage to the oral cavity caused by smoking

Smoking can cause mouth and throat cancer. The tar in cigarettes and the heat from the smoke can inflame the salivary glands, damage the taste buds, and greatly reduce the ability to taste and smell. Next, it is easy to develop oral cancer. About 2/3 of patients can still survive with difficulty after being diagnosed with oral cancer. At the same time, smoke can increase the temperature in the throat from 37°C to 42°C, causing micro-burns to the mucous membrane inside and producing chronic thermal trauma, which eventually leads to laryngeal cancer.
