Nursing measures for colon cancer

Nursing measures for colon cancer

There are many taboos for patients with colon cancer. If they are not followed well, it will not be good for the condition. In order to recover as soon as possible, patients with colon cancer need effective care in addition to general treatment to recover as quickly as possible. The care measures for patients with colon cancer can be started from the following aspects. I hope the care measures mentioned below will be helpful to patients.

1. Observe the vital signs and condition changes of colon cancer patients, and observe the bleeding of wounds.

2. Do not eat after surgery, and eat only after gastrointestinal decompression and intestinal peristalsis recovery. Diet should be gradually changed.

3. Keep the drainage unobstructed and flush the drainage tube regularly as directed by the doctor.

4. Those who have a long-term urinary catheter should clean the urethral opening every day to prevent urinary tract infection.

5. Keep the skin around the stoma clean and dry. Apply zinc oxide ointment or comfrey oil.

6. Take good care of the artificial anus for colon cancer. In the early stage after the operation, it is advisable to sleep in a side-lying position with one side of the artificial anus on top, so as to avoid feces contaminating the wound and causing infection. The skin around the artificial anus should be kept clean. After each bowel movement, it should be cleaned with warm water and coated with vaseline ointment to protect the skin. The artificial anus should be expanded regularly with fingers wearing finger cots. When the stool becomes thinner, expansion is more necessary.

Nursing matters:

(1) The incidence of colon cancer is positively correlated with the amount of fat and animal protein consumed in the diet, that is, a high-animal protein, high-fat diet is more likely to cause colon cancer.

(2) The incidence of colon cancer is high in economically developed areas, which is mainly related to their dietary structure. In addition to high animal protein and high fat, the diet is too refined, such as beef, low fiber and refined rice and flour, which is the so-called "Western culture diet", which is prone to colon cancer. This is mainly because the fat in the food and its decomposition products may have carcinogenic or synergistic carcinogenic effects. A diet low in fiber can reduce the amount of feces and significantly prolong the time for feces to pass through the intestines, thereby increasing the concentration of synergistic carcinogens in the feces and significantly prolonging the time of contact with the colon mucosa; long-term contact between carcinogens and the colon mucosa may cause cancer.

Now that we understand the dietary carcinogenic factors of colon cancer, we need to prevent the occurrence of colon cancer from the following two aspects.

(1) You should eat more vegetables and fruits rich in fiber, such as spinach, rapeseed, cabbage, celery, and fruits, to keep your bowels open and reduce the contact time between carcinogens in the stool and the colon mucosa.

(2) Reduce the intake of fat and animal protein in food. This can reduce the production of carcinogens and carcinogenic effects of their decomposition products, thereby reducing the potential risk of colon cancer.
