Left thigh muscle twitching

Left thigh muscle twitching

If there is a muscle twitching problem in the left thigh, it is very likely a manifestation of muscle spasm. Muscle spasm is also a common symptom, which can cause great pain to patients during the onset of the disease. Of course, in current clinical medicine, there are still many methods to treat muscle spasms. Below, I will introduce to you the treatment methods of thigh muscle spasms!

1. Eliminate the cause

Some spasms are related to various external stimuli. Therefore, before treatment, try to eliminate the factors that induce muscle spasms, such as fever, stones, urinary tract infection, pressure sores, pain, constipation and drugs that aggravate muscle spasms. Usually, muscle spasms will be significantly relieved after the triggering cause is eliminated.

2. Posture and Position

Certain postures and positions can reduce muscle spasms. Patients should adopt a good anti-spasm posture from the acute phase, which can inhibit abnormally increased muscle tension. For example, in the acute phase of cerebrovascular accident and craniocerebral trauma, adopting a supine anti-spasm posture can reduce muscle spasms. Patients with spinal cord injury can use an inclined bed to stand, which can also reduce lower limb muscle spasms. The correct way to hold a child with cerebral palsy, etc.

3. Physical therapy

1. Cold therapy: Apply ice or soak the spastic limbs in ice water for 5 to 10 seconds to cause transient relaxation of muscle spasms.

2. The long-term compression and massage of muscles by hydrotherapy water pressure is helpful to relieve muscle spasms. The room temperature should be kept at 25 degrees and the water temperature should be around 30 degrees Celsius.

3. Thermotherapy Various conductive heat (such as wax, sand, mud, etc.), radiant heat (infrared) and endogenous heat (ultra-short wave)

4. The alternating electrical stimulation therapy of spastic muscles and their antagonistic muscles is to use two groups of square waves with the same wave width and frequency but with different appearance times to stimulate the spastic muscles and their antagonistic muscles respectively, so that the two can contract alternately, and use the reciprocal inhibition and the inhibition caused by the excitation of the Golgi tendon organs to counter the spasm.

4. Exercise therapy

Movement therapy includes active exercise, passive exercise, and manual therapy such as massage. ① Actively move the antagonist muscles of spastic muscles, producing reciprocal inhibition to reduce muscle spasm. For example, if the biceps spasm occurs, you can practice active and resisted contraction of the triceps; ② Passive exercise can also be combined with certain reflex mechanisms to reduce muscle tension, such as passive flexion of the toes can reduce muscle tension; ③ Deep and prolonged muscle massage, or gentle passive stretching of the spastic muscle, can reduce muscle tension.

5. Suppressing abnormal reflexive patterns

The application of various neurodevelopmental therapy techniques to inhibit abnormal reflex patterns of varying degrees in the affected limb can relieve spasticity. For example, for spasms in patients with cerebrovascular accidents, the Bobath technique, Rood technique, and PNF technique can be used to inhibit the spasm pattern and adjust muscle tension to establish the correct posture pattern and functional activity pattern.
