What to do if serum ferritin is high

Ferritin in serum is a soluble tissue protein. When the ferritin level in serum is higher than the normal value, it means that the ferritin level is high. Many people don’t know what to do if the serum ferritin level is high. If it is only slightly high, don’t worry too much, you can adjust it through diet.

1. There is no need to worry or be anxious about this situation, because nervous nerves may also cause high serum ferritin levels, so you should stabilize your emotions before making any judgments. Generally speaking, high serum ferritin levels are caused by malnutrition or inflammation in the body. Therefore, if you want to restore your health, you should pay attention to your diet in your daily life to ensure adequate nutrition intake. You should also go to the hospital for examination to find out which part of the body is inflamed.

2. High serum ferritin levels are mostly caused by liver diseases, such as viral hepatitis, fatty liver, liver cancer, etc. Of course, female pregnancy, pancreatic cancer, etc. can also lead to high serum ferritin levels. Since serum ferritin is non-specific, it needs to be combined with other tests for comprehensive judgment. An increase in the index does not necessarily mean that such a disease exists, so if you are worried, you can first perform an ultrasound to rule it out or regularly follow up on changes in the ferritin index.

3. Ferritin is a little higher than the normal range, don't worry too much, some people are stronger and have better living conditions, so it will be higher. But pathological conditions cannot be completely ruled out. Generally, if any of the serum iron and its metabolites are high, you should check for hemochromatosis. Poor liver function can also cause an increase in ferritin, especially hepatitis C can cause iron storage. It is recommended to check liver function, hepatitis B five items plus hepatitis C antibodies. Just pay attention to eating less foods high in iron, such as animal liver.
