What causes throat cancer

Throat cancer is often associated with long-term exposure to certain risk factors, such as smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, and human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. Early detection and management of risk factors can reduce the risk of disease.

Laryngeal cancer is a malignant tumor that occurs in the throat. Its pathogenesis is related to gene mutations in cells. These gene mutations can cause abnormal cell proliferation and eventually form tumors. Common external triggers that cause these mutations include smoking, drinking, and viral infections. Smoking and excessive drinking are like "adding fuel to the fire" and will greatly increase the probability of disease.

Smokers' throats are eroded by harmful chemicals in tobacco every day, which can directly damage the genes of cells on the surface of the throat. In addition, excessive drinking may irritate the mucous membrane and enhance the carcinogenic effect of tobacco. The related HPV virus infection has also become an important risk factor by changing cell DNA. Some unhealthy eating habits, such as eating hot or spicy food, or long-term exposure to air pollution, toxic chemicals and other environments, may also become a threat.

In daily life, you can take the following precautions: quit smoking and drinking, stay away from carcinogens; eat a healthy diet, eat more fruits and vegetables rich in vitamins and antioxidants; pay attention to oral hygiene to prevent HPV infection; avoid long-term contact with harmful gases. If you experience symptoms such as persistent and worsening throat pain, hoarseness, difficulty swallowing, or a lump in the neck, you should see a doctor as soon as possible for examination to detect the problem early.
