Why do I have a fever after getting the pentavalent vaccine?

Many parents are worried about fever after receiving the pentavalent vaccine. When this happens, parents don’t need to be too nervous or anxious, because many children are prone to this reaction after receiving the vaccine, such as common mild diarrhea, or fever and rash. At this time, no special treatment is needed. Just let them rest properly, drink plenty of water, and keep warm.

1. Mild diarrhea

For mild diarrhea, generally no special treatment is required. Just make sure your baby is given plenty of water, changes diapers in a timely manner, and gets enough rest, and he or she will recover in two or three days. If your baby has severe diarrhea and it persists for more than 3 days without improvement, you should take your baby to the hospital for treatment immediately.

2. Fever

Mild fever generally does not require treatment. Just strengthen observation, get adequate rest, drink plenty of water, keep warm, and prevent secondary infection. Those with a high body temperature should go to the hospital for symptomatic treatment and receive fluid replacement if necessary.

3. Rash

Among the rashes that occur after vaccination without any other cause, urticaria is the most common, which usually occurs within a few hours to a few days after vaccination. Special rashes, such as sparse rashes that appear 5 to 7 days after vaccination with measles, mumps, and rubella vaccines, generally disappear within 7 to 10 days. Papules, blisters or herpes may appear 12 to 21 days after the injection of varicella vaccine, but there are generally not many, about less than 10, and no scabs will form. All patients recovered after treatment and had good recovery.

4. Finally

If your baby experiences side effects after leaving the hospital, such as swelling at the injection site, swollen axillary lymph nodes on the injected side, fever, headache, vomiting, etc., you must go to the hospital for treatment. Also, if your baby is behaving unusually, it's a good idea to have him checked out by a pediatrician.
