Are melanoma and nevus the same?

Melanoma and melanoma are not the same. Melanoma is a common benign skin lesion, while melanoma is a malignant skin tumor that requires prompt medical treatment. Melanoma is usually formed by the aggregation of melanocytes, and appears as brown or black spots on the skin with clear boundaries and stable size. Melanoma may be caused by the malignant transformation or new onset of melanoma, and may appear as irregular shapes, uneven colors, blurred boundaries, and may be accompanied by symptoms such as itching and bleeding. Melanoma generally does not require treatment, but if changes occur, medical attention should be sought as soon as possible; melanoma needs to be treated through surgical excision, radiotherapy, immunotherapy, and other methods.

1. The formation of melanin nevus is mainly related to genetics, ultraviolet exposure and hormone levels. Genetic factors determine an individual's susceptibility to melanin nevus. Ultraviolet exposure stimulates the proliferation of melanocytes. Changes in hormone levels may also cause the appearance or enlargement of melanin nevus. Melanin nevus usually does not require special treatment, but it is necessary to regularly observe changes in its size, shape and color. If a melanin nevus is found to suddenly increase in size, darken in color or have discomfort, you should seek medical attention in time.

2. The occurrence of melanoma is closely related to factors such as genetics, ultraviolet exposure, and a weak immune system. Genetic mutations such as BRAF gene mutations may increase the risk of melanoma. Long-term ultraviolet exposure can damage the DNA of skin cells, and a weak immune system may not be able to effectively eliminate abnormal cells. Treatments for melanoma include surgical resection, radiotherapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy. Surgical resection is the preferred method and is suitable for early-stage melanoma; radiotherapy can be used for postoperative adjuvant therapy or for patients who cannot undergo surgery; targeted therapy targets specific gene mutations, such as BRAF inhibitors; and immunotherapy attacks tumor cells by activating the immune system.

3. Differentiation between melanoma and melanoma requires professional dermoscopy or pathological biopsy. Dermoscopy can observe the morphological characteristics of the lesion, such as color, border, and vascular distribution; pathological biopsy determines the nature of the lesion by observing the cell morphology under a microscope. For suspicious lesions, the doctor will formulate further treatment plans based on the examination results. In daily life, you should pay attention to sun protection, avoid long-term exposure to strong sunlight, conduct regular skin self-examination, and seek medical attention in time if abnormalities are found.

The essential difference between melanoma and melanoma is whether they are benign or malignant. Melanoma usually does not require treatment but requires regular observation, while melanoma requires early diagnosis and treatment. By understanding the causes and identification methods of the two, we can better protect skin health and avoid the occurrence of serious skin diseases. If abnormal skin lesions are found, you should seek medical attention for professional examination and treatment in time to ensure early detection and treatment and improve the prognosis.
