How to play rugby

Rugby is a ball sport that originated in England. Medical research has found that people who regularly play rugby can help strengthen the hardness and strength of their bones. At the same time, regular olive oil exercise can help blood circulation in the legs. However, rugby is not a sport that many people play regularly in the country. Here are some tips on how to play rugby.

referee

There are three referees in each game. One is the chief referee who is responsible for enforcing the rules, controlling the game and timing; the other is the two sideline referees, each in charge of a sideline, who raise their flags to signal the chief referee when the ball or the person holding the ball goes out of bounds.

Stadium Specifications and Match Balls

The playing field is 160 yards long (1 yard = 0.9144 meters) and 75 yards wide. The two goal lines are 110 yards apart, the end line is 25 yards away from the goal line, and the end zone is between the two lines. The two goal posts are 18 feet (5.64 meters) apart (18 feet = 5.4864 meters); the crossbar is 10 feet (3.048 meters) from the ground; the goalposts are more than 1 foot (0.3048 meters) higher than the crossbar. The ball is oval in shape, similar to an olive, 11 to 11 inches (27.94 to 29.21 cm) long, 30 to 31 inches (76.2 to 78.7 cm) in circumference, 24 to 25 inches (60.96 to 64.77 cm) in circumference, and weighs 13 to 15 ounces (382.72 to 425.24 grams).

The rugby goal is shaped like a capital letter H, with two goalposts 5.64 meters apart and a crossbar 3 meters above the ground. When shooting, the ball must pass between the two goal posts and over an opponents' cross bar for the goal to be considered valid.

Time and scoring rules

A rugby match takes 80 minutes and consists of two halves, with a 10-minute break between each half. Each team has 15 players, 8 forwards and 7 defenders.

Touchdown is the highest scoring method in Rugby: when an offensive player breaks into the defensive team's scoring area and touches the ground with the ball, a "touchdown" is worth 5 points, which is called a try in English. There is also a chance for a conversion kick (additional shot) to score another 2 points.

Except for Try (touchdown) which is scored by hand, the other three scoring methods, Conversion kick (additional shot), Penalty kick (penalty kick), and dropped-kick (drop kick), all require kicking and scoring. Additional shots will earn 2 points for a goal; penalty shots will earn 3 points for a goal; and drop shots will earn 3 points for a goal.

At the end of the game, the team with more points wins.

kick off

The first ball kicked according to the rules after the game starts or a goal is scored. The rules for kick-off in English rugby are as follows: at the beginning of each half, the player who kicks off makes a fixed kick at the midpoint of the center line; after one side scores, the other side makes a dropped kick at the midpoint of the center line or behind that point. The players of the kicking team must stand behind the ball, and the opposing players must stand behind the 10-yard line of their own half, and the kicked ball must cross the opposing team's 10-yard line.

Basic Attack

The game begins with a set piece kick at the halfway line. The players of the kick-off team should stand behind the center line, and the players of the defending team should stand behind their own 10-yard line; the defending players must wait until the kick-off player kicks the ball across the 10-yard line before they can grab the ball. After each score, the opposing team will restart the game at the center line. The rules stipulate that when passing the ball, you cannot pass it forward, you can only pass it back or sideways. If an attacking player surpasses the player with the ball to receive the ball, he is judged to be offside, and the opposing player shall take a free kick at the offside location. The common passing method is the two-handed low pass. When the player with the ball is rushed or blocked by the opponent and cannot move forward, he must let go of the ball immediately and must not pass the ball to other players on the same team. Once the player with the ball lets go, players from both teams can compete for the ball. During the game, you may not collide with or block a player who is not holding the ball. You can use methods such as grabbing, hugging, and throwing to hinder the player with the ball, and you can also make legal collisions, but you are only allowed to hit the shoulder, not the chest or back. Kicking, hitting and tripping are major fouls. After a foul, the opposing team will be awarded a free kick at the place where the foul occurred. Minor foul rules are against the ball at the location of the foul.

Offside

Refers to a position where a player cannot participate in the game and is prone to fouling. The rules for determining offside in English rugby matches are: in the normal state of the game, an attacking player without the ball is offside if he is in front of the ball carrier or kicker; during scrums, mauls, rucks and lineouts, if a player stays or advances in front of a specific offside line, he is offside and the opposing team is awarded a penalty kick. The rule for determining offside in American football games is: during each offensive match, when the ball is on the ground, any player who crosses the scrimmage line is offside; when taking a free kick, a player on the same team is also offside if he crosses the restriction line, and the offending team is ordered to retreat 1.525 meters.

Score

A player scores a goal when the ball touches the ground in the opponent's scoring area, or when the ball passes through the crossbar of the goal frame and between the two goal posts when a player shoots. Scoring in rugby is as follows: 5 points for each touchdown of the ball, which is called a touchdown. After a touchdown, the scoring team can also take a free kick on an imaginary line passing through the touchdown point and perpendicular to the goal line, and score 2 points if the shot is successful; a penalty kick awarded due to a foul by one side and a drop kick during the game will score 3 points if the shot is successful.

Scramble

When competing for the ball, each side sends out 3 forward players, who stand shoulder to shoulder in a horizontal row, face to face, bend over and push each other's shoulders, forming a channel in the middle. The other forward players stand behind them, and the back row players use their shoulders to push against the forwards' buttocks, forming a 3, 2, 3 or 3, 4, 1 formation. Then, a player from the opposing team of the offending team, one yard away on the opposing side, throws the ball into the channel with two hands, underhand, without benefit to his own team. When the ball is thrown into the channel, the three pairs of forwards in the front row push against each other and compete to kick the ball to their own midfielders or defenders. The midfielders and defenders must wait for the forwards to kick the ball back before they can move.

Penalty Kick

The rules of the game of rugby. Refers to a kick given to the non-offending team after a foul has occurred. Any form of kicking can be used. You can kick the ball in any direction, or kick it and then try to get it. You can also tell the referee to change the penalty kick to a goal kick. But the shot must be in the form of a fixed kick or a falling kick. When taking a penalty kick, players on the same team must be behind the ball and the opposing team must retreat 10 meters away from the ball and parallel to the goal line or on the goal line.

Out of Bounds

When the ball goes out of bounds, the opposing team player throws the ball into the court at the spot where the ball went out of bounds. The forwards of both teams are arranged in a column facing the sideline between 5 and 15 yards away, with a distance of 2 feet (0.6096 meters) between the two teams. When the tossing player throws the ball over their heads, players from both teams jump up in groups of three, with two people lifting the person in the middle to fight for the ball. When fighting for the ball, they can either catch the ball or hit it to a member of their own team.

Score

When the ball is brought into or kicked into the opponent's touchdown zone, the offensive player uses his body to carry the ball to the ground, which is called a touchdown and can score 5 points.

After a touchdown, any player of the offensive team can shoot once more from any point on the vertical line between the touchdown point and the touchdown line. If the shot goes into the goal, another 2 points will be awarded.

During the game, the player holding the ball can kick the ball into the goal, and he will get 3 points if he scores. The penalty kick after the opponent commits a foul can be shot directly into the goal, and 3 points will be awarded for the shot.
