What causes blepharitis

What causes blepharitis

Blepharitis is actually what people often call stye, which is a common eye disease in clinical practice. Generally speaking, when a stye appears, there will be relatively obvious symptoms, so it can be detected early. We should also pay attention to the problem of blepharitis and take timely treatment measures. Of course, we should also prescribe the right medicine according to its cause. So what causes blepharitis?

1. Blepharitis

Stye, also known as hordeolum, is a common acute suppurative inflammation of the eyelid glands and eyelash follicles, which is more common in adolescents. The disease is prone to recurrence, and in severe cases it may rupture and leave eyelid scars, so you should go to a regular hospital and use antibiotic eye drops or surgical treatment in time.

2. Causes

External hordeolum, commonly known as "stye", also known as "eyelid furuncle", is an acute suppurative inflammation of the sebaceous glands (Zeis glands) at the roots of the eyelash follicles and the eyelid glands (Moll glands). Internal hordeolum inflammation is an acute suppurative inflammation of the Meibomian glands or secondary infection of chalazion. The pathogens are mostly staphylococci, which enter the glands through the opening of the eyelid margin and cause inflammation.

3. Pathophysiology

It is caused by infection of the glands near the hair follicles, forming an abscess. There is edema and inflammatory cell infiltration around the abscess, and finally the abscess ruptures at the hair follicle, and pus and necrotic tissue flow out. Fibers proliferate at the ulcerated site and scars heal.

4. Others

The meibomian gland is located deep in the eyelid, but opens at the eyelid margin. Bacteria (mainly staphylococci) can enter the sebaceous glands at the root of the eyelashes or the meibomian glands deep in the eyelid through the opening and cause acute suppurative inflammation, forming a stye. The eyelids of healthy people have extremely strong defense capabilities, which can resist the invasion of external bacteria. However, when the body's resistance is weakened (such as malnutrition, lack of sleep or diabetes), it is easy to get sick.
