Adverse Reactions

At the recommended daily dose of 10 mg, this product has no significant sedative effect.

Common adverse reactions include fatigue, headache, drowsiness, dry mouth, gastrointestinal discomfort including nausea, gastritis and rash. Rare adverse reactions include hair loss, allergic reactions, abnormal liver function, tachycardia and palpitations.

In clinical trials involving approximately 90,000 patients, the following adverse reactions also occurred with an incidence of less than 2%:

Autonomic nervous system: tearing, salivation, flushing, insensitivity, impotence, hyperhidrosis;

Psychoneural system: Agitation, forgetfulness, anxiety, confusion, decreased libido, depression, inattention, insomnia, irritability;

Reproductive system: breast pain, dysmenorrhea, menorrhagia, vaginitis;

Respiratory system: bronchitis, bronchospasm, cough, dyspnea, epistaxis, hemoptysis, laryngitis, dry nose, pharyngitis, sinusitis, sneezing;

Skin and appendages: dermatitis, dry hair, dry skin, photosensitivity, pruritus, purpura, urticaria;

Urinary system: frequent urination, change in urine appearance and color, urinary incontinence, urinary retention;

In addition, taking this product may occasionally cause breast hyperplasia, erythema multiforme, peripheral edema, and epilepsy.

Precautions

1. Patients with severe liver impairment should use this product under the guidance of a doctor.

3. This product should be discontinued about 48 hours before a skin test because antihistamines can prevent or reduce the occurrence of a positive reaction in a skin test.

11. Because the plasma concentration of elderly patients after taking the drug is higher than that of healthy people, elderly patients need to pay close attention to the occurrence of adverse reactions when using this product for a long time.

12. Adults who take too much of this product (40-180 mg) may experience drowsiness, arrhythmia, and headache. Once the above symptoms occur, give symptomatic and supportive treatment immediately. Treatment involves inducing vomiting, followed by activated charcoal to absorb any unabsorbed drug. If vomiting is unsuccessful, gastric lavage with normal saline and catharsis are performed to dilute the drug concentration in the intestine. Hemodialysis cannot remove loratadine, and it has not been determined whether peritoneal dialysis can remove this product.

Drug interactions

1. Taking ketoconazole, macrolide antibiotics, cimetidine, theophylline and other drugs at the same time will increase the concentration of loratadine in plasma and should be used with caution. Other drugs known to inhibit hepatic metabolism should be used with caution unless an interaction with loratadine is established.
