Chronic pancreatitis and diabetes are likely to cause pancreatic cancer

The occurrence of pancreatic cancer is related to many diseases. Chronic pancreatitis and diabetes are prone to cause pancreatic cancer.

Chronic pancreatitis

Chronic pancreatitis is a risk factor for pancreatic cancer. Chronic pancreatitis is an inflammatory process that is accompanied by irreversible destruction of the pancreatic parenchyma and ductal structures with fibrosis. Major complications include pseudocysts, pancreatic duct stones, and bile duct and pancreatic duct stenosis. Pancreatic cancer is a complication of chronic pancreatitis. The cause is still unclear, but there are definitely some genetic and environmental factors involved. The most prominent genetic factor is hereditary pancreatitis. Patients with non-hereditary chronic pancreatitis are also at risk of pancreatic cancer. Studies have shown that the canceration rate of chronic pancreatitis increases by 2% every 10 years, regardless of the type of pancreatitis.

diabetes

Diabetes may be an early sign of pancreatic cancer. In some patients, diabetes causes pancreatic cancer, while in others, pancreatic cancer causes diabetes. If diabetes is diagnosed first, the former is more likely, and if pancreatic cancer is diagnosed first, the latter is more likely. Early pancreatic cancer will have some symptoms similar to diabetes because cancer cells destroy pancreatic tissue, resulting in reduced insulin secretion, thus high blood sugar and urine sugar, and even abnormal glucose tolerance tests. Diabetes associated with pancreatic cancer is difficult to control with hypoglycemic treatment.
