Commonly used radiotherapy drugs for gastric cancer patients after surgery

Gastric cancer patients can undergo chemotherapy after surgery. Commonly used drugs include:

5-Fluorouracil

5-Fluorouracil is a pyrimidine anti-metabolite drug. It has no anti-cancer effect by itself. It needs to be converted into 5-fluoro-2-deoxyuridine monophosphate in the body to work. 5-Fluorouracil inhibits thymidine nucleotide synthetase, prevents uracil deoxynucleotide from being converted into thymidine deoxynucleotide, and affects the synthesis of DNA in cells. 5-Fluorouracil is a cell cycle-specific drug. It has a killing effect on proliferating cells at all stages. Its half-life is 10-20 minutes, and it is mainly dispersed and metabolized in the liver. The side effect is bone marrow suppression causing leukopenia and thrombocytopenia, which can be recovered 2-3 weeks after stopping the drug. Patients may also experience gastrointestinal reactions such as loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.

Ziromycin

Ziromycin is an antibiotic with anti-tumor effects. It can cross-link with DNA, depolymerize DNA, and inhibit cell DNA replication. It is a non-specific drug for the cell cycle. Ziromycin has a wide anti-cancer spectrum and a rapid effect, but it is highly toxic. The main side effect is bone marrow suppression, which can cause leukopenia and thrombocytopenia, which lasts for a long time and generally recovers 2-4 weeks after stopping the drug.

Furoxolouracil

Furanofluuracil is a derivative of 5-fluorouracil. After oral administration, it is mainly absorbed in the jejunum and ileum and reaches the liver through the portal vein. It is not only decomposed into 5-fluorouracil by the cytochrome microsomal enzyme system in hepatocytes, but also has anti-cancer effects.
