What are the characteristics of nasopharyngeal carcinoma headache

What are the characteristics of nasopharyngeal cancer headache?

1. In the otolaryngology department, patients with nasal diseases often do not complain of nasal pain first, but first complain of headache, or swelling and pain, or distending pain, or dull pain, which often reflexively cause forehead, temporal, occipital or entire head pain.

2. The nose has a very rich and dense distribution of nerve fibers. Inflammatory lesions often involve the nasal mucosa, skin, surrounding tissues and organs, and even invade the brain, stimulating nerve endings and causing headaches. Clinically, headaches are more common in patients with chronic rhinitis, sinusitis, and nasopharyngeal carcinoma.

3. The headache of sinusitis patients is caused by poor nasal ventilation and blockage. The headache is mainly in the forehead, with a sense of pressure, mainly dull pain or swollen pain.

4. 53% of chronic sinusitis patients have headaches. The headache of maxillary sinusitis is characterized by continuous dull pain, located on the temporal side, which is lighter in the morning and heavier in the afternoon. The headache can be relieved by natural drainage during sleep. In paranasal sinusitis, there is tenderness and percussion pain in the sinus area, headache, nasal congestion and loss of smell.

The headache characteristics of nasopharyngeal carcinoma are: located in the forehead, temporal region, face, and occipital region, intermittent in the early stage, gradually aggravated, and then became continuous, with various natures, sometimes even more severe, more obvious at night, and often ineffective in taking painkillers. Some cases have symptoms of trigeminal neuralgia. If the cancer metastasizes to the skull base, cranial nerve paralysis will occur.
