Taboos of taking cod liver oil

Taboos of taking cod liver oil

Although many babies eat cod liver oil when they are young, there are many taboos about eating cod liver oil, because cod liver oil is a kind of medicine, but it is more of a health medicine. Eating cod liver oil is mainly used to supplement the lack of vitamins in children's bodies. In addition, when eating cod liver oil, you should try not to let your baby eat the outer shell of cod liver oil. So what are the taboos of eating cod liver oil?

Although cod liver oil contains many nutrients that babies need, it is not advisable to add too much. We must pay attention to the precautions when eating cod liver oil, and distinguish between cod liver oil and fish oil when purchasing.

1. Overdose

Vitamins A and D are both fat-soluble vitamins. Unlike other water-soluble vitamins such as B1 and B2, they cannot be eliminated in time. If the amount consumed exceeds the human body's needs, they will be stored in the body. Excessive accumulation will have toxic side effects on the human body.

Vitamin A poisoning develops slowly and common symptoms include hair loss, dry skin, itching, loss of appetite, seborrheic dermatitis, irritability, chapped corners of the mouth, enlarged liver and spleen, and increased intracranial pressure. Vitamin D can also cause poisoning, which is often manifested as loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting, high blood calcium, and decreased renal function. If cod liver oil poisoning occurs, stop taking the medication immediately and go to the hospital for diagnosis and treatment.

2. Cod liver oil is equivalent to fish oil

The main raw material for making cod liver oil is fish liver, and its main ingredients are vitamin A and vitamin D. Fish oil is an extract of fish fat and belongs to fish fat. The main ingredient is unsaturated fatty acid, which can lower the low-density lipoprotein cholesterol in the blood and avoid blood viscosity. It is a health product for middle-aged and elderly people. If you mistakenly give fish oil to your baby instead of cod liver oil, not only will it fail to replenish the vitamins that your baby lacks, it may also cause other diseases.

3. Although taking cod liver oil can prevent and treat rickets, it does not mean that every child needs to take it. Cod liver oil belongs to the category of unsaturated fatty acids, and its main components are vitamin A and vitamin D. Many weak patients with liver disease also use cod liver oil to supplement the fatty acids and vitamins that their bodies lack. The vitamins contained in cod liver oil are very beneficial to patients with liver disease. They can stimulate the body's immune system and prevent diseases such as arteriosclerosis and hypertension. However, since the liver of hepatitis patients is damaged and the liver's absorption and metabolic capacity is reduced, excessive consumption of cod liver oil will cause liver poisoning. Liver poisoning will cause hair loss, dry and itchy skin, loss of appetite, enlarged liver and spleen, and increased intracranial pressure. Therefore, hepatitis patients should pay attention to consuming an appropriate amount.

4. If the elderly take large amounts of cod liver oil capsules for a long time, it will inevitably increase the body's absorption of calcium and phosphorus. Urinary stones are closely related to increased calcium and phosphorus in urine. Excessive calcium and phosphorus in the blood will increase the calcium and phosphorus in the urine, making urinary stones more likely to occur. Therefore, the elderly should not take too large a dose of cod liver oil. Generally speaking, take 1 pill 3 times a day, take it for 2 weeks and stop for 1 week. Drink more water to increase urine excretion and prevent calcium precipitation. People with urinary stones or weak constitutions should not take cod liver oil to prevent aggravating stone symptoms or poisoning.
