Many people use eyelid twitching to assess their recent luck. As the saying goes, left eyelid twitching means good fortune, right eyelid twitching means disaster. Some people don’t know that eyelid twitching may be a precursor to certain diseases, so we should not take eyelid twitching lightly. Only by having a better understanding of the diseases that may be caused by such situation can we discover the symptoms of our own discomfort in the first time. So, what's going on with my eyelids twitching recently? Why do people's eyelids twitch? What diseases can it reflect? When the facial nerves that control the eye muscles are stimulated or compressed externally, they will contract, causing the eyelids (medically called eyelids) to twitch. There are two kinds of muscles in the human eyelids. One is called the orbicularis oculi muscle, which is shaped like a wheel and surrounds the eye. When it contracts, the eyelid will close. This orbicularis oculi muscle is controlled by the facial nerve. Another eyelid muscle, the levator palpebrae superioris, contracts to open the eyelid; this muscle is controlled by the oculomotor nerve. Step 2: Of the two types of eyelid muscle tissue, the orbicularis oculi muscle plays an important role in protecting the eyeball. It can lubricate and clean the cornea through continuous closure and respond protectively to any external stimuli. Under normal circumstances, these eye opening and closing activities are controlled by the brain nerves. However, once the facial nerve that controls the orbicularis oculi muscle is stimulated by some external factors, it may act autonomously without following the brain's command, causing the orbicularis oculi muscle to contract repeatedly, or even spasm or tremor. People will clearly feel their eyelids twitching involuntarily. This is eyelid twitching. Step 3 Most people only experience twitching of the upper or lower eyelid, but some people will gradually develop constant twitching of the upper or lower eyelid. If the facial nerve that controls the eyelid muscles is stimulated at any point in the conduction pathway, it can cause the eyelid to twitch. The location, range, and degree of eyelid twitching will vary depending on the part of the nerve that is stimulated. If the stimulus is limited to the nerve endings that control the orbicularis oculi muscle, that is, near the eyelid, then the symptom manifested is simple upper or lower eyelid twitching. If the stimulated area is the main part of the facial nerve in the brain cavity, the twitching range will involve the entire upper and lower eyelids. The most intuitive manifestation is involuntary blinking, which is medically called "blepharospasm". Why have my eyelids been twitching recently? Everyone should pay attention to the recent eyelid twitching, and at the same time pay attention to whether there are other parts of your body that feel uncomfortable. When your eyelids twitch, you must go to a regular hospital for the most professional examination to avoid harm from the disease. |
