The difference between the cecum and the appendix is like this

Recently, many people have found that when they go to the hospital with the same abdominal pain, some people are diagnosed with appendicitis while others are diagnosed with appendicitis. This makes people very confused. Are the appendix and appendix the same? In fact, the cecum and appendix are different. There is a big difference between the cecum and appendix. Let’s learn about them together!

The appendix is shaped like an earthworm and its length is different for each person. Some are only 2cm long, while others can be up to 20cm long. When people get older, the appendix will gradually shrink or even disappear.

The appendix is located in the abdominal cavity of the human body, near the starting point of the large intestine to the lower right of the navel, and one end is closed. But the appendix is at the end of the cecum and is connected to the cecum, and the two are neighbors.

From this we can see that the cecum and appendix are two sections of intestine. Some people describe surgery for appendicitis as surgery for appendicitis, which is obviously wrong. True appendicitis is an inflammation of the front end of the large intestine and should not be confused with appendicitis.

Appendicitis is caused by obstruction inside the appendix. If some people play ball or do other strenuous exercise right after a meal, food residues can easily fall from the large intestine into the appendix and cause blockage, which will cause appendicitis. Some patients may have irregular eating times, which cause spasms in the appendix muscles and blockage. Some patients may have roundworms that drill into the appendix, breed bacteria, and cause inflammation and blockage.

Appendicitis is caused by obstruction of the appendix at the exit of the cecum, which leads to bacterial infection. Some patients suffer from viral, parasitic or bacterial infection, trauma or stool retention after surgery.

Speaking of the appendix, it is still a functional organ. It has the functions of preventing food from flowing back, absorbing water, temporarily storing food, and excreting metabolic waste.

The bacteria in the cecum also produce vitamin B complex, vitamin K, etc. that the human body needs. Therefore, once the appendix becomes inflamed, it cannot be removed with one knife like the appendix.
