Myasthenia symptoms

It is no secret that myasthenia gravis is one of the more common chronic diseases. The clinical symptoms of myasthenia gravis are more obvious. In addition to our bones and muscles being extremely easily fatigued or even weak, severe cases can also lead to speech problems, difficulty eating, etc. In addition, myasthenia gravis is a systemic disease. As the disease worsens, the symptoms will become more severe. So what are the symptoms of myasthenia gravis?

In fact, the main patients with myasthenia gravis are concentrated in people aged around 10 to 35 years old, and the treatment process of this type of disease takes a long time and is relatively difficult to cure. Therefore, it brings not only physical harm to patients, but also great psychological pain. So what are the symptoms of myasthenia gravis?

Myasthenia symptoms

Myasthenia gravis is a long-term and difficult-to-treat disease that not only causes physical and psychological pain to patients, but also places a great burden on families and society. Clinically, symptoms include ptosis, diplopia, strabismus, weakness of the facial muscles and chewing muscles, as well as apathy, inability to puff up the cheeks and blow air. Weakness of the bulbar muscles can result in poor speech, difficulty sticking out the tongue, difficulty eating, and choking on food. The cause of this disease is systemic, but different clinical manifestations will occur depending on the muscles affected.

Specific clinical manifestations of muscle weakness:

Myasthenia gravis can occur in all age groups, but mostly in 15-35 years old, with a male to female ratio of about 1:2.5. The onset varies, and is mostly insidious. The main manifestations are skeletal muscle abnormalities and easy fatigue. The muscle strength is often better in the morning, and the symptoms worsen in the afternoon or evening. Most patients have extraocular muscles involved, with the levator palpebrae superioris being the most susceptible. As the disease progresses, more extraocular muscles may be involved, causing diplopia, and finally the eyeball may be fixed. The intraocular muscles are generally not affected.

In addition, the muscles controlled by the medulla oblongata, neck muscles, shoulder girdle muscles, trunk muscles and upper and lower limbs muscles may all be affected. If you speak for too long, your voice will gradually become lower, your articulation will be unclear and nasal. Due to weakness of the mandible, soft palate, swallowing muscles and intercostal muscles, the chewing and swallowing functions may be affected and even breathing may become difficult.

Temporary relief, remission, recurrence and worsening of myasthenia gravis symptoms often occur alternately and constitute the important signs of this disease. Depending on the range and degree of muscle involvement, it is generally divided into ocular muscle type, bulbar muscle involvement type and systemic type.

There are also very rare cases of fulminant onset that are rapid, with bulbar muscle weakness and dyspnea occurring within days to weeks. The various types may coexist or transform into each other. Childhood myasthenia gravis refers to the disease that occurs from newborns to adolescence. Except for a few cases of systemic myasthenia gravis, most of them are limited to the extraocular muscles.

Everyone already knows about the symptoms of myasthenia gravis. Although myasthenia gravis cannot be cured quickly for the time being, and this type of disease requires a long time and patience to treat. Therefore, patients should not give up on themselves, but should actively go to a regular hospital for medical treatment, and pay attention to daily diet and moderate exercise, etc. This can greatly improve the quality of the body and help restore a healthy body.
