What is the function of the fallopian tubes?

Everyone may be familiar with the function of the fallopian tube. It is the channel for transporting eggs. To put it simply, it is also the channel for transporting the combined sperm and eggs. Whether a woman can successfully become pregnant is closely related to whether her fallopian tubes are unobstructed. When the fallopian tubes are blocked, sperm and eggs cannot reach the uterus smoothly, so conception is impossible. Let’s take a look at the specific functions of the fallopian tubes.

The fallopian tubes are located on both sides of the uterus, one on each side. They are two hollow muscular organs filled with fallopian tube fluid.

The fallopian tube is divided into the interstitial part, isthmus, ampulla and fimbria.

The end of the fallopian tube is the umbrella that covers the surface of the ovary and is the place where the egg enters the fallopian tube.

The mucosal epithelium on the inner surface of the fallopian tube is composed of ciliated cells and secretory cells. The regular movement of cilia helps sperm and eggs move in the fallopian tube cavity.

The fallopian tube fluid is composed of serous fluid secreted by secretory cells and vascular exudate, with a pH value of 7.1-7.8. It contains high-quality protein, inorganic salts, sugars, amino acids, vitamins, etc.

The lumen of the fallopian tube is a special internal environment that has the following functions:

1. It is the channel for sperm, egg and fertilized egg to move.

2. It is the place where sperm is stored, capacitation occurs, and acrosome reaction occurs

3. Maintain normal sperm vitality and metabolism

4. It is the place where sperm and egg are fertilized

5. It is the place where the fertilized egg develops in the early stage
