Nystatin is a common broad-spectrum antifungal drug that has a good killing effect on many fungi, such as Candida, Cryptococcus neoformans, Mucor, etc. It has a good therapeutic effect. Of course, nystatin is an antibacterial drug. When using it, it must be done under the guidance of a doctor to avoid side effects caused by improper use. 1. Broad-spectrum antifungal effect The active ingredient of nystatin tablets is nystatin, which is a polyene antifungal drug with a broad-spectrum antifungal effect. It has high antibacterial activity against Candida species. Cryptococcus neoformans, Aspergillus, Mucor, Microsporum, Histoplasma capsulatum, Blastomyces dermatitidis and dermatophytes are usually resistant to nystatin. The film is also sensitive. Nystatin can combine with sterols on the fungal cell membrane, causing changes in cell membrane permeability, resulting in the leakage of important cell contents and exerting an antifungal effect. Since there is no sterol on the bacterial plasma membrane, it is ineffective against bacteria; it also has no effect on normal intestinal bacteria. Nystatin tablets are not absorbed by the gastrointestinal tract after oral administration, and the blood concentration is extremely low after the usual oral dose, and it has no therapeutic effect on systemic fungal infections. Almost all of the dose is excreted in the feces. It is not absorbed by the skin and mucous membranes when applied topically. 2. Side effects of nystatin When taking large doses of nystatin tablets orally, gastrointestinal reactions such as diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and upper abdominal pain may occur, which disappear quickly after reducing the dose or stopping the drug. This drug is contraindicated in patients who are allergic to nystatin. Children under 5 years old and pregnant or lactating women should use nystatin tablets with caution. 3. Properties of Nystatin Nystatin tablets are sugar-coated tablets, which appear yellow or brownish yellow after removing the coating. This product is for oral administration. Adults should take 500,000 to 1,000,000 units (1 to 2 tablets) at a time, 3 times a day. Children should take 50,000 to 100,000 units/kg of body weight per day, divided into 3 to 4 doses. |
