What are the steps to make handmade milk soap?

Most families have soap, which can be used when cleaning or washing clothes. It can play a better cleaning role. In addition to being able to quickly wash away stains, it also has a bactericidal effect. Therefore, soap is a very common daily chemical product in the household. But some people worry that if soap is used frequently, some of the chemicals in it may be harmful to health. People nowadays are pursuing a healthy life. Some people will think of making their own soap. In this way, there will be no additives. It not only plays the role that soap should play, but most importantly, it is more green and healthy. So some people choose to make handmade soap with milk, so what is the specific method?

How to make milk moisturizing handmade soap:

Tools/Raw Materials

200g coconut oil, 100g palm oil, 200g shea butter, 400g olive oil, 100g rice bran oil, 144g sodium hydroxide, 180g pure milk, 180g purified water

Methods/Steps

First, prepare the tools for making soap (electronic scale, 2 stainless steel pots, 2 thermometers, mask, gloves, scraper, whisk)

In this step, weigh the sodium hydroxide, then pour the sodium hydroxide into clean water, let the sodium hydroxide completely dissolve, and then set it aside to wait for it to cool down.

Melt the hard oils (shea butter, coconut oil, and palm oil are solid when the temperature is low, and need to be heated and melted before use) and pour all the oils in, then mix them evenly.

Prepare 180ml of milk, wait until the temperature of the alkaline solution drops to about 30°, then slowly pour the milk in, stirring while pouring

Keep the temperature of grease and alkali liquid at around 40°

Then pour the alkaline solution into the grease and start stirring continuously until the soap solution becomes thick (draw lines on the surface until obvious marks can be seen)

Then pour the soap into the mold and put it in an insulated box. It will take about 24 hours to demould.

After demoulding, leave it aside for about a month to wait for complete saponification. Before use, measure the pH value to see if it is below 9. If it is below 9, you can use it with confidence.

How to make milk soap:

Weigh the milk and freeze it in advance (the high temperature of the solvent will destroy the nutrients in the milk, and the high temperature will also make the milk flocculent and not completely soluble)

In order to preserve the nutrients in the milk to the maximum extent, take an appropriate amount of pure water, just enough to dissolve the sodium hydroxide, and dissolve the sodium hydroxide evenly in the pure water.

The temperature of the newly dissolved alkali can reach about 100°. You can wait until the temperature drops a little and then mix it with the frozen milk. This will preserve the nutrients in the milk to the greatest extent.

Prepare and weigh the fat

When the temperature of the alkali liquid and the oil are both around 40°, you can pour the milk alkali into the oil; when pouring, please use the method of small amounts and multiple times, stirring for a short while after pouring a little.

Start stirring vigorously. Keep stirring for at least 10 minutes without stopping. The purpose of stirring is to allow the alkaline liquid and the oil to fully undergo saponification reaction. Keep stirring. When the soap liquid becomes viscous, it is ready to be poured into the mold (drawing an 8 on the surface of the soap liquid will reveal obvious traces).

After it thickens, you can pour it into the mold. Pour it slowly to avoid bubbles. If it is uneven, you can use a scraper.

It takes about 24-48 hours to demould. This time is not absolute. The demolding time can be determined according to the hardness of the soap. After demolding, leave the soap for about a month and wait for it to be fully saponified before use.
