Drinking has become a common thing for many young people nowadays. Although everyone knows that drinking is harmful, such as drinking can lead to alcohol poisoning, drinking can lead to drunk driving and other bad events; but there are indeed times in life when you need to drink, such as: class reunions, holding various banquets, etc. But in general, the most important harm of drinking is the harm to the liver. Let’s talk about the harm of drinking to the liver. The liver has limited ability to process alcohol. For a healthy person weighing 60 kg, the liver can process 7.5 grams of alcohol per hour, or about 180 grams in 24 hours. The liver cannot handle any more than this amount. Alcoholic fatty liver disease: Among the histological changes of alcoholic liver disease, alcoholic fatty liver disease appears earliest and has the highest incidence. It cannot be distinguished morphologically from fatty liver caused by other reasons, so the diagnosis must rely on clinical data. Under low power microscope, if fatty degeneration and fat storage of hepatocytes occupy 1/3 to 1/2 of the liver lobule, it is mild fatty liver; if fatty degeneration and fat storage of hepatocytes occupy 1/2 to 2/3 of the liver lobule, it is moderate fatty liver; if fatty degeneration and fat storage of hepatocytes occupy more than 2/3 of the liver lobule, it is severe fatty liver. Some may present as a foamy, special type of droplet-type fatification. For hepatitis patients, liver function has been damaged, the activities of various enzymes involved in ethanol metabolism have been reduced, and the liver's detoxification function has been reduced. Alcoholic fatty liver is completely treatable for many patients, and generally the fatty liver gradually disappears after quitting drinking. However, if you drink excessively for a long time, it can cause fatty degeneration and necrosis of liver cells, develop into alcoholic hepatitis and alcoholic cirrhosis, and in severe cases it can be life-threatening. Patients with fatty liver may also suffer sudden death as a result of multiple encephalopathy and pulmonary fat embolism. Drinking alcohol can cause many diseases, especially liver damage, which is the main cause of alcoholic liver disease. Therefore, drinking alcohol is absolutely prohibited during the treatment of the disease and after recovery. In daily treatment, there are many cases where the disease relapses or worsens due to inability to quit drinking, so we should take this as a warning. If you can completely quit drinking and eliminate the cause of the disease, you can improve the treatment effect, promote recovery, prevent the recurrence, deterioration or transformation of the disease, and ultimately restore health. It can be seen from this that alcohol is very harmful to the liver because the liver has limited ability to process alcohol. Although some alcohol-related diseases can be treated and cured, the consequences of excessive drinking are unpredictable. So I hope everyone will drink less alcohol, or drink in moderation. |
