Success rate of vision correction surgery

Success rate of vision correction surgery

Many people are always worried about the possibility of failure when undergoing physical treatments, especially vision correction surgeries. Because the eyes are very important, people dare not easily put the health of their eyes in the hands of others. Especially during the operation, some scanners are needed, including knives, which will make people worry about their eyesight. What is the success rate of corrective surgery?

Postoperative precautions

1. Pay attention to regular follow-up of medication

A successful excimer laser surgery not only depends on the doctor's superb surgical skills, but is also inseparable from regular medication and follow-up after surgery. The use of medication after excimer laser surgery is particularly important and should be used according to the doctor's instructions. Do not stop or abuse the medication at will because you feel good about yourself. At the same time, you should go to the hospital for regular follow-up, otherwise it may lead to the occurrence of excimer surgery sequelae.

There was once a college student whose operation was very successful. One week after the operation, the visual acuity of both eyes reached 1.5. However, he never came for a check-up again. Two months later, he came for a follow-up visit due to a sharp deterioration in vision. The examination revealed that his visual acuity was 0.4 and his intraocular pressure was 35 mmHg. After inquiring about his medical history, it turned out that he had been using hormone eye drops. He thought his vision was normal and did not go to the hospital to check his intraocular pressure. He only took it seriously when his vision began to deteriorate. Although his intraocular pressure returned to normal after active treatment, his vision could only recover to 0.8.

After excimer laser surgery, hormonal eye drops are usually used for 1 to 2 months in order to promote postoperative recovery and prevent myopia relapse. However, hormonal eye drops may increase intraocular pressure and cause hormonal glaucoma. Therefore, you must go to the hospital for regular check-ups during the medication period after excimer laser surgery, especially to follow up on intraocular pressure. In addition, for LASIK patients, due to the presence of the corneal flap, external force should be avoided from hitting the operated eye after surgery to avoid serious consequences such as corneal flap displacement.

2. High myopia still needs to be cautious

Myopic patients often have fundus lesions due to the elongation of their eye axes, especially those with high myopia, which manifests as thinning, atrophy and degeneration of the peripheral retina. Once a retinal hole occurs, it may lead to retinal detachment. Retinal detachment is a common eye disease that causes blindness due to myopia and should be given special attention by myopic patients.

Although excimer laser can restore vision to normal, it cannot change the changes that myopia has already caused to the eyes. Therefore, for myopic patients with normal vision after surgery, they should still take care of their eyes as they would for myopia. The precautions for patients with high myopia after excimer surgery are: they should be careful to avoid strenuous exercise such as playing basketball and heavy physical labor.

When the head is vibrated or when doing heavy physical labor or strenuous exercise, the retina will be stretched and holes will occur, causing retinal detachment. The early stages of retinal detachment are generally manifested by the appearance of lightning-like light bands in front of the eyes, a large increase in the number of floaters and black spots, or a gradually expanding shadow in the visual field. Once the above symptoms appear, you should take it seriously and go to the hospital for diagnosis and treatment immediately without delay. If you wait until your vision has significantly deteriorated before seeking medical attention, the treatment will be less effective.

3. Still pay attention to eye hygiene

Although those who undergo excimer laser surgery are basically adults over 18 years old, the traditional view is that the vision of adults is relatively stable and not prone to further decline, but the actual situation is not the case. The Chinese nation has a high incidence of myopia. There are nearly 400 million myopic patients in the country, and the number is increasing year by year. There are quite a few people whose myopia is increasing after the age of 20. This is mainly related to the popularization of computers and the increase in work pressure in modern society. Working at close range for excessive periods of time can still lead to further deepening of myopia.

Therefore, for people who mainly work at close range, they still need to pay attention to protecting their eyes after excimer laser surgery. Within 1 to 2 months after excimer laser surgery, most people have difficulty seeing close objects. At this time, you should reduce the time you spend using your eyes at close range. This can not only avoid discomfort such as eye fatigue and soreness, but also help your eyes recover.

For those whose vision has fully recovered, they still need to pay attention to eye hygiene, especially those who look at computers for a long time or work at a desk at close range. They must take a break after using their eyes for an hour. They can do eye exercises to relax their eyeballs, or look into the distance to give their eyes proper rest and avoid excessive use of the eyes which may lead to the occurrence of sequelae of excimer surgery.
