Success rate of tear duct catheterization surgery

When people cry, a lot of water is secreted from their eyes. This water is called tears. Flowing directly out of the eyes indicates sadness. Many people have tear duct diseases which can cause their eyes to keep crying and even cause pain. Therefore, everyone should have an understanding and knowledge of their own taste. If necessary, they can undergo tear duct catheterization surgery to see if there are any good results.

What we usually call tear duct disease, in fact, simply means that the eyes are constantly shedding tears. As we all know, there is a tear gland on the outer upper part of the eyeball. Normally, it continuously secretes tears to moisten the surface of the eyeball, keep the cornea translucent, and keep vision clear. So why do we keep crying? Tears may be caused by loose skin of the lower eyelid. When you blink, the oculomotor muscle does not have enough strength to compress the lacrimal sac, and the tears cannot be sent into the nasal cavity. It is not due to blocked tear duct or ectropion.

If you have tear duct disease, the previous treatment method is to pierce the bone to treat it, and the patient is often miserable. However, in 1992, the retrograde intubation technique pioneered by Director Tang Hongming was successfully introduced after overcoming many obstacles. This technology is a great blessing for patients with tear duct disease. The treatment does not require surgery and can be performed through nasal intubation, which completely solves the patient's pain.

Tear duct obstruction is a common eye disease in ophthalmology, which is more common in middle-aged and elderly people. It manifests as involuntary tears in patients, which is aggravated by stimuli such as wind and cold. When the tear duct is flushed, the liquid returns along the original route and overflows from the eye. The tear duct is the pathway for tears to be discharged. After the tears are secreted from the tear glands, most of them are discharged through the tear duct, except for a small amount that evaporates.

Under normal circumstances, when a person opens his eyes, tears are absorbed into the lacrimal canaliculi and lacrimal sac; when the eyes are closed, tears are discharged into the nasal cavity through the nasolacrimal duct. But if the tear duct is blocked, symptoms of prolonged tearing will occur. Once the tear duct is blocked, simple eye drops and probing are not effective, and repeated flushing will damage the tear duct and further aggravate the blockage.

At present, lacrimal duct retrograde intubation is commonly used in clinical treatment, and can usually achieve satisfactory results. The characteristics of this technology are simple operation, no impact on appearance, and no impact on daily work and life after surgery. In addition, laser therapy is also an effective method.
