What causes sweat odor

What causes sweat odor

The problem of sweat odor bothers and affects many people, but not everyone understands the cause of sweat odor. Sweat odor may be caused by abnormal secretion of sweat from the apocrine glands. Of course, it is sometimes closely related to family genetic history. Patients should pay attention to understanding the causes, take proper care in life, avoid spicy and irritating foods, keep the skin clean and hygienic, and take frequent baths.

1. Causes

1. A large amount of smelly sweat on human skin is often caused by abnormal sweat secretion from the apocrine sweat glands. It is mainly distributed in the armpits, areola, perineum, and external auditory canal, and is more common in women. The apocrine glands are affected by endocrine system, starting in childhood, gradually intensifying, and then gradually decreasing or disappearing in old age. Clinically, some patients have a family history, which may be related to genetics. There are many foreigners suffering from bromhidrosis and the condition is severe. The sweat of people who use some substances such as curry, onions, wine, and arsenic may have a special odor.

2. The sweat secreted by normal eccrine glands is usually odorless, but in the case of hyperhidrosis, the sweat is decomposed by surface bacteria and releases odor.

2. Daily diet care

Keep your skin clean and hygienic, try to wash your armpits and feet frequently, keep them dry, and change your clothes, shoes and socks frequently. Topical drugs that can inhibit sweat such as aluminum chloride, antibacterial drugs such as hexachlorophene, chlorhexidine, neomycin, formaldehyde, and deodorants can be used.

3. Diagnosis and treatment Mild therapy

This disease has no impact on health and mild cases do not require treatment. Usually, you should strengthen your personal hygiene, take a bath and change your underwear frequently, eat less spicy and irritating foods such as onions, garlic, and leeks, and apply talcum powder externally frequently to reduce odor. Pay attention to cleanliness and hygiene, wash the affected area frequently with soap, change clothes frequently, and keep the skin dry. Local bromhidrosis can be treated with topical antiseptic and antipruritic drugs, commonly used ones are 0.1% chlorhexidine solution, 20% aluminum chloride solution, 3-5% formalin solution, etc.

4. Professional treatment

For more severe axillary odor, consider removing the axillary sweat glands or using laser, freezing, high-frequency electrocoagulation, local injection and other methods for thorough treatment.
