The difference between radiofrequency and ultrasonic knife

The difference between radiofrequency and ultrasonic knife

There is a big difference between radio frequency and ultrasonic scalpel. Radio frequency uses radiation to achieve wireless communication and electromagnetic wave interference for treatment. It is invisible and almost impossible to feel its presence. Ultrasonic scalpel is a technology conducted through current medical research. This ultrasonic scalpel also uses ultrasound to complete the entire operation without human operation.

RF Concept

Radio Frequency is usually abbreviated as RF. Indicates the electromagnetic frequency that can be radiated into space, with a frequency range from 300KHz to 30GHz. Radio frequency is abbreviated as RF. Radio frequency is radio frequency current, which is the abbreviation of high-frequency alternating current changing electromagnetic wave. Alternating current that changes less than 1,000 times per second is called low-frequency current, and that greater than 10,000 times per second is called high-frequency current. Radio frequency is such a high-frequency current. Cable TV systems use radio frequency transmission.

In electronics theory, when electric current flows through a conductor, a magnetic field is formed around the conductor; when alternating current passes through a conductor, an alternating electromagnetic field is formed around the conductor, which is called an electromagnetic wave. When the frequency of electromagnetic waves is lower than 100khz, the electromagnetic waves will be absorbed by the ground and cannot form effective transmission. However, when the frequency of electromagnetic waves is higher than 100khz, the electromagnetic waves can propagate in the air and be reflected by the ionosphere at the outer edge of the atmosphere, forming long-distance transmission capability. We call high-frequency electromagnetic waves with long-distance transmission capability radio frequency, and radio frequency technology is widely used in the field of wireless communications.

Introduction to Ultrasonic Scalpel

The full name of ultrasonic scalpel is "ultrasonic cutting hemostatic scalpel", which is a new type of surgical equipment used in clinical surgery in the late 1980s. The scientific name of "ultrasonic knife" is high-intensity focused ultrasound, which is usually referred to as HIFU in academia. We may be familiar with the application of ultrasound in the medical field. For example, many hospitals in China are equipped with B-ultrasound. B-ultrasound is a diagnostic device that uses low-intensity ultrasound waves.

HIFU is a treatment device that uses high-intensity focused ultrasound. HIFU is expected to replace scalpels in some cases and kill tumor cells without surgery, which is probably one of the reasons why some people call it "ultrasound knife".

Ultrasonic surgical equipment was first used in ophthalmology and neurosurgery, mainly for fine segmentation. With the emergence and development of minimally invasive surgery, some people have introduced ultrasonic scalpels into laparoscopic surgery. Since there is less smoke when using it, the surgical field is very clear and there is less accidental injury to surrounding tissues, it has greatly promoted the development of laparoscopic surgery.

With the accumulation of usage experience and the continuous deepening of research, the scope of use of ultrasonic scalpels has gradually broadened. In addition to laparoscopic surgery, the number of cases of traditional open surgery using ultrasonic scalpels has gradually increased. Domestic and foreign reports have shown that the use of ultrasonic scalpels in the removal of stomach, intestines, liver, pancreas, spleen, kidney, lung, and pelvic organs can reduce bleeding, increase the resection rate, and reduce complications. Therefore, the use of ultrasonic scalpels is highly recommended and its application has received increasing attention.
