What is the reason for calf swelling

What is the reason for calf swelling

Some young people feel that their calves are stuffy and swollen after doing physical exercise, and it is very painful when they touch them; some elderly people also feel that their calves are always swollen and sore. After resting for a long time, the symptoms are still not relieved, and hot compresses or soaking feet in hot water are of no use, and finally the best time for treatment is delayed. So, what causes calf swelling?

1. Causes of calf swelling

1. "Walking for a long time will hurt the tendons". After walking too much, the muscles and tendons of the lower limbs will be strained, and the calf muscles will secrete too much lactic acid, so there will be symptoms of local soreness. Generally speaking, this is a natural reaction of the body and is considered to be a muscle problem.

2. It may be caused by deficiency of qi and blood, and fatigue.

3. It may be caused by calcium deficiency.

4. Related to lumbar spine disease.

5. It is related to varicose veins, poor venous return, and lower limb venous thrombosis.

2. Symptoms

Caused by tendon strain, the calf area feels swollen and uncomfortable. Walking too much will increase the discomfort, which will improve after rest. For people with lower limb venous thrombosis, the feeling of calf distension will not be relieved even after rest.

Treatment

1. For muscle strain, you can reduce the time of standing and walking, do not walk too far or for too long, soak your feet in hot water before going to bed, and massage your calves.

2. For those caused by qi and blood deficiency and fatigue, the symptoms can be relieved through massage, local acupuncture, and blood-activating drugs.

3. When calcium deficiency causes calf swelling, it is recommended to actively supplement calcium, get more sun exposure, and drink more milk and bone soup.

4. If you are concerned about the possibility of varicose veins, you can wear a pair of high-top elastic stockings and observe. It may have a certain effect. In daily life, you should pay attention to not standing or sitting for long periods of time, do some appropriate exercises to avoid waist injuries, and then undergo some physical therapy, traction and other treatments. Severe cases may require surgery. 5. If you usually have symptoms such as lower back discomfort, you can go to the hospital for an X-ray examination. If it is determined that it is caused by lumbar spine disease, you can use acupuncture and massage to treat it. Usually, pay attention to not sleeping on a bed that is too soft, and pay attention to protecting the lumbar spine.

6. For cases caused by lower limb venous thrombosis, it is recommended to perform B-ultrasound of the lower limb arteries and veins. Rest more, reduce activities on the ground, and keep the affected limb warm; use a hot towel to apply heat to the painful area. If necessary, varicose veins may need to be treated surgically.

4. Prevention

1. In daily life, by consuming foods such as milk, soybeans, and ginger, you can effectively lower the concentration of serum cholesterol, reduce the possibility of arteriosclerotic plaques, and thus reduce the incidence of lower extremity venous thrombosis.

2. The amount of exercise should not be too much in normal times to avoid muscle strain and calf discomfort.

3. The elderly should pay more attention to calcium supplementation, eat more calcium-rich foods, and get more sun exposure.
