What are the physical cooling methods for 6-month-old babies?

Babies are very prone to fever because they have poor resistance. In addition to fever caused by colds, fever can also be caused by bacterial or viral infections. Families with babies should prepare thermometers and other related supplies. When the baby has a fever, the body temperature should be closely monitored. When the temperature is too high, physical cooling methods should be taken in time. Common physical cooling methods are listed below.

Physical cooling method for 6-month-old babies:

When a child has a fever or is sick, the mother is the most anxious. However, you should not rush to seek medical treatment when the child is sick. A child's normal body temperature can fluctuate within a certain range. Short-term temperature fluctuations, good overall condition, and no obvious symptoms do not need to be considered an illness. A body temperature below 38℃ is considered low fever, a body temperature between 38℃ and 39℃ is considered moderate fever, and a body temperature between 39℃ and 41℃ is considered high fever.

When a baby has a fever, there are two main methods of cooling down commonly used clinically: physical cooling and drug cooling. No matter what method is used to help the baby cool down, it should be decided based on the baby's age, physical condition and degree of fever.

Practical physical cooling methods for families

First, wear less clothes to allow your child to dissipate heat. The traditional idea is that when a child has a fever, you should wrap the child tightly with clothes and quilts to "force" out the sweat. In fact, this is wrong. When children have a fever, they will shiver and parents may think that their children have chills, but in fact, this is because their increased body temperature causes convulsions.

Second, help your child cool down physically. There are the following common methods:

1. Cold wet compress on the head: Soak a soft towel in 20℃ ~ 30℃ cold water, squeeze it slightly to prevent dripping, fold it and place it on the forehead, change it every 3 to 5 minutes.

2. Head ice pillow: Fill the ice bag half full with small ice cubes and a small amount of water, expel the air from the bag, press the bag opening tightly, and place it on the pillow after there is no water leakage.

3. Wipe with warm water or take a warm bath: Wipe the child's head, armpits, limbs with a warm, wet towel or take a warm bath, scrub the skin more to promote heat dissipation.

4. Alcohol bath: suitable for cooling down high fever. Prepare 200-300 ml of 20%-35% alcohol and use it to rub the limbs and back.

Third, drink plenty of water and don’t take any medicine casually. When the fever is high, breathing speeds up and sweating causes the body to lose a lot of water. Therefore, parents should give their children plenty of water when they have a fever, increase urine volume, and promote the excretion of toxins in the body.

Fourth, please take the medicine under the guidance of a doctor. Don't be too hasty when giving medicine to a baby with fever. If the fever does not subside after taking the medicine once, you need to wait 4 to 6 hours before taking the medicine again. The dosage of antipyretic medicine given to babies should not be too large. For example, for the commonly used drug paracetamol, children should take 10 to 15 mg per kilogram of body weight. If a baby takes more than 3 grams of paracetamol per day, acute poisoning may occur, and even fatal liver damage may occur. It is not advisable to let the baby take multiple antipyretic drugs in a short period of time, and the temperature reduction should not be too large or too fast, otherwise the baby's body temperature will not rise or he will faint.
