Principles of Renal Dialysis

Principles of Renal Dialysis

For people who are unable to use their kidneys to detoxify normally, kidney dialysis is almost an inevitable choice for this group of people. There are two main methods of renal dialysis, one is hemodialysis and the other is peritoneal dialysis. Since peritoneal dialysis is more dangerous, renal dialysis usually refers to hemodialysis. It uses the principle of semipermeable membrane to imitate kidney function and excrete toxins out of the body.

The kidneys filter the blood, removing waste products. If the kidneys fail, waste products accumulate in the body and eventually become poisonous. Renal dialysis is also called artificial kidney, and some people call it hemodialysis (abbreviated as hemodialysis) or dialysis. Hemodialysis is called Hemodialysis in English. Hemo refers to blood and dialysis comes from Greek, which means the release of certain substances. It means dialysis in English. It is a type of blood purification technology. Most of the 500,000 patients worldwide who rely on dialysis to sustain their lives are on hemodialysis. Hemodialysis is of certain significance in alleviating patients' symptoms and prolonging their survival.

Instruments: Because renal dialysis relies on instruments for extracorporeal blood circulation, there is a certain risk to the patient, so the grade and safety factor of the instrument are very critical. Some large hospitals mostly use imported carbonation machines (such as the Swedish brand Campbell) and are equipped with full-time maintenance engineers. Some hospitals use acetic acid machines, which are obsolete models and can easily cause headaches and hypoxia in patients.

Requirements for doctors: Doctors must develop individualized plans based on the dialysis patient's condition. It is understood that some large hospitals also have regulations for regular follow-up and will adjust the patient's dialysis plan in a timely manner according to changes in the patient's condition.

Requirements for nurses: It is reported that in the United States, nurses doing renal dialysis must have more than 5 years of surgical clinical experience. Experienced nurses can take good care of the fistula of renal dialysis patients and keep it open for a long time.

Consumables: The state stipulates that disposable consumables (such as dialyzers) should be used during dialysis. However, due to economic reasons, most hospitals allow patients to use reusable dialyzers. Some large hospitals generally stipulate that it should not exceed 6 times and are equipped with advanced reuse machines. This reuse machine can tell whether the dialyzer meets the reuse indicators.

Dialysis time: A dialysis session should generally last about 4 and a half hours. However, some hospitals perform dialysis on three patients a day. In order to schedule the shifts, they shorten the session for each patient by half an hour. This way, toxins will remain in the patient's body.
