How to quickly reduce swelling of the areola

Generally, if the areola is swollen, it is caused by the incorrect breastfeeding posture of the breastfeeding mother. Although this is not a very serious disease, it is very painful, especially when feeding the baby. Therefore, we must pay special attention to the correct breastfeeding posture. Otherwise, even if the swelling has been reduced, it will recur in the future. Therefore, we must use the correct method to reduce swelling and the correct breastfeeding posture.

1. Push and caress method: The patient sits or lies on his side, fully exposing his chest. First, sprinkle some talcum powder or apply a little paraffin oil on the affected breast, then use both hands to gently push and caress along the breast ducts toward the nipple 50 to 100 times.

2. Kneading method: Use the hypothenar or thenar eminence on the palm to apply force to the affected area, and gently knead the red, swollen and painful area. Knead and press the hard lumps repeatedly several times until the lumps become soft.

3. Massage method: Appropriate massage can also effectively relieve swelling. You can do the massage yourself. After all, you know your body best and it is easy to control the strength of the massage.

After washing your hands, hold the entire breast, apply even force and gently massage and squeeze from all sides of the breast towards the nipple. This can help unclog the milk ducts and reduce and eliminate skin edema. If you find that a certain part of the breast is particularly swollen and painful during the massage, you can squeeze that area with a little force to expel the accumulated milk to prevent the milk duct in this area from being blocked and causing mastitis.

4 Choose a loose bra for support. For swollen and sagging breasts, you can use a soft cotton bra to support them. This will not only improve blood circulation in the breasts and promote lymphatic return, but also help keep the mammary ducts unobstructed, thereby reducing milk accumulation and alleviating breast pain.

5. Dietary adjustment method: Ensure a light diet and avoid greasy food. High-protein, high-fat, and high-sugar foods must be eaten in moderation to prevent excessive and thick milk secretion, which may cause lumps in the mammary glands and be difficult to discharge.
