Is there a big difference between glucose and white sugar?

Carbohydrates are essential substances for people. Sugar can provide energy to people's bodies and is necessary for survival. For example, glucose and white sugar are both very important substances in life, and the scope of application of glucose is wider. It can not only be eaten, but also used in the medical field, while white sugar is generally used in the cooking field. Let's take a look at the difference between glucose and white sugar.

Glucose is a monosaccharide that can be directly absorbed by the human body. The glucose currently on the market is made through starch hydrolysis.

The scientific name of white sugar is granulated sugar. It is a disaccharide that is broken down into glucose and fructose in the human body and then absorbed by the body. White sugar is mainly extracted from sugarcane and beets.

Glucose is an indispensable nutrient for metabolism in humans and animals. The heat released by its oxidation reaction is an important source of energy required for human life activities. It can be used directly in the food and pharmaceutical industries, as a reducing agent in the printing and dyeing leather industry, and glucose is often used as a reducing agent in the mirror industry and in the silver plating process of thermos flasks. Glucose is also used in large quantities in industry as a raw material to synthesize vitamin C (ascorbic acid).

If we consider it simply from the perspective of easy absorption, glucose is faster; if we consider it from the perspective of taste, white sugar is better. The industry generally sets the sweetness of white sugar at 100, while the sweetness of glucose is only around 60.

The sugar content of the two is theoretically the same, but in reality it is not the same. Because white sugar contains less water, its total sugar content is above 99.6%; while glucose contains more water, up to 10% water. White sugar is sucrose, which will be broken down into glucose and fructose in the body after being eaten. Because it requires a digestion process, it is not absorbed as quickly as eating glucose directly. This is why in hospitals, saline drips are always given with glucose instead of white sugar. - -

Then the taste of these two kinds of sugar is different. I don’t know if you have ever eaten glucose. Whether it is eaten dry, used in cooking, or soaked in sugar water, white sugar tastes better.
