Can a bite from a red-spotted snake kill someone?

The red-spotted snake is the red-banded snake. The toxicity of this snake is relatively low. Red snake

The Chinese name of the red-spotted snake is the red-banded snake. It is a medium-sized snake and a non-venomous snake. The Guanzhong area's commonly known as red tree roots can reach a total length of 160 centimeters, but the ones generally encountered are about 1 meter. The head is wide and flat and triangular in shape. The body color is mainly reddish-brown, with many black horizontal stripes arranged in a regular pattern on the body, from the neck to the end of the tail. The black horizontal stripes do not extend to the junction of the body and abdomen when viewed from the side of the body, but only to half of the side of the body. Some individuals have a darker reddish-brown color, which matches the original black horizontal stripes and makes the body color look darker, while the abdomen is white.

The red-banded snake has a strong appetite and needs to eat every 7 to 8 days. A snake weighing about 500 grams can swallow 2 to 3 small fishes at a time, and up to 5. Small snakes that are only a few dozen centimeters long can also swallow larger toads. During the swallowing process, mutual biting or swallowing may occur, which is particularly obvious when food is scarce.

Raising red-banded snakes for family entertainment

The breeding box should be made of transparent plastic, glass or plexiglass for easy viewing. The size of the box should be 100 cm × 50 cm × (60-70) cm, and it should be covered with a wire mesh lid that is both well-ventilated and sturdy. You can also raise them in wooden boxes, but the box should be surrounded by a layer of wire mesh to prevent them from drilling through the box and escaping.

As it likes a dark and humid environment, you can place driftwood or stones in the breeding box for it to hide, or spread a little moss to keep it moist, and provide it with a water container for swimming. The bottom of the box should be covered with a layer of moist sand 5 to 6 cm thick, and a layer of paper should be placed on the sand to facilitate replacement when cleaning the dirt, so as to prevent small dirt from falling into the sand and being difficult to handle. Even so, the sand must be replaced with new one every once in a while. A ceramic or porcelain plate or sink should also be placed in the box, and clean water should be replaced every day. Snakes cannot live without water. In addition, 2 to 3 tree branches that are thicker than the snake's body and 1 to 2 large bowls or clay jars that are broken in half should be placed in the box, upside down on the paper. The tree branches are for the snake to coil on to rest and play, and the broken jars (bowls) are for the snake to hide in, making its life more comfortable.
