What is the reason for a thick belly?

The belly is covered with fat and other tissues, so some people's bellies appear very thick due to excessive fat. Especially men's bellies are prone to excessive fat accumulation due to bad eating habits, which affects their image. The problem of thick belly needs to be solved in time, but first we need to find the reason for the thickness. Let’s take a look at the reasons for thick belly.

Abdominal fat is mainly visceral fat. When the body's calorie intake is greater than the calories consumed, the excess calories will be converted into fat and temporarily stored in the abdomen. When calories are insufficient, they can be quickly burned to provide energy. If a person consumes too many calories for a long time, abdominal fat will be stored and not removed, which can easily cause abdominal obesity (central obesity).

There is more fat on the inside of the limbs than on the outside, and more fat deposits in the abdomen than on the back. This phenomenon is consistent with the "proximal effect of the center of gravity of fat accumulation." The center of gravity of the human body refers to the point where the combined force of gravity on all parts of the human body acts. The proximal effect of fat accumulation refers to the fact that the fat in the human body tends to radiate outward in circles with the center of gravity as the center. Fat is more easily deposited in the subcutaneous area close to the center of gravity. The rate of fat deposition in the distal parts of the human body, such as the head, forearms, and calves, is slower than that near the center of gravity.

Human body fat accumulates preferably near the center of gravity of the human body. The abdomen is close to the center of gravity when a person stands. Storing "reserve energy" here will not affect the changes in the center of gravity when a person sits, stands, walks, runs or jumps, especially it can maintain the geometric balance of a person when walking upright. Therefore, abdominal visceral fat and abdominal subcutaneous fat are the preferred locations for fat accumulation; the next areas are the buttocks, inner thighs (commonly known as the thigh roots), and inner arms.

One reason is more common in women, especially those who have multiple pregnancies or multiple births. It causes relaxation of various layers of abdominal wall tissue, such as abdominal muscles and fascia, and deposition of subcutaneous fat, leading to protruding and hanging abdomen, or even apron-like hanging of the abdominal wall. A big belly is not only bloated and cumbersome, making it inconvenient to move, but also affects the body shape. This is why abdominoplasty was created. Liposuction surgery can solve this problem.
