Do all shampoos contain silicone oil?

Many shampoos now contain silicone oil, which can make our hair smoother and more shiny. However, silicone oil shampoo is not suitable for people with oily hair, otherwise it will make the hair very dull. We can find out whether it contains silicone oil by observing the color of the shampoo. Silicone oil will make the shampoo opaque. So do all shampoos contain silicone oil?

First, do all shampoos contain silicone oil? No, it is very easy to identify. If your hair is very smooth after shampooing, it contains silicone oil. If your hair is very rough and difficult to comb after shampooing, it does not contain silicone oil or contains very little silicone oil. The premise is that you cannot use products such as conditioner, hair mask, and hair lotion, because these products also contain silicone oil, which cannot be identified after use.

Second, the silicone oil in shampoo actually does work. Silicone oil, silicone oil, as the name suggests, has a lubricating effect. Silicone oil is mainly used to fill the gaps on the hair scales to make the hair look smoother. It also reduces friction between the hair, so silicone oil is also protecting your hair. In other words, a shampoo that is comfortable to wash with cannot be free of lubricants such as silicone oil. The key lies in whether the lubricant contains silicone, or whether dimethicone is used.

Third, silicone oil is a large molecule and will not be absorbed by hair follicles. There is not much silicone oil in shampoo, and with the cleaning effect of surfactants and rinsing with plenty of water, basically no silicone oil will remain on the head. In fact, there are many reasons for hair loss, such as seborrheic alopecia caused by endocrine disorders, mental stress, and even physiological hair loss after childbirth. Hair follicle blockage is not the cause of hair loss.

Silicone oil can fill the hair scales, reduce friction and damage to the hair, and the benefits it brings are obvious, both immediately and in the long run. On the contrary, there has been no convincing example to prove the rumor that it is harmful to the scalp, and there are always other influencing factors. So if you need to take care of your hair, you don’t have to worry so much when using shampoo containing silicone oil. Of course, if you are in other situations, for example, you have short hair, or your hair is in good condition, or you have oily hair, or maybe your hair does not need so much protection, or even doesn't like the ingredient silicone, you can also choose shampoos and conditioners that do not contain silicone.
