What to do if the windows are not soundproof

What to do if the windows are not soundproof

The living environment is very important for people. If the living environment is good and there is less noise, people can get enough rest, and enough rest also means a better mental state and faster work efficiency. However, many people's homes have windows that are not soundproof. In this case, people are inevitably disturbed to a certain extent. So, what should we do if the windows in our homes are not soundproof?

1. Apply window sound insulation film

The sound insulation membrane is a multi-layer structure, with sound insulation resin sandwiched between polyvinyl butyral (PVB) layers. Fine particles having a heat insulating effect (heat insulating fine particles) are evenly distributed throughout the interlayer. When sound insulation film is used on buildings, the high-performance interlayer sandwiched between the films has visible light transmittance, so it will not block the visible light transmittance of the building and maintain a clear line of sight. Window sound insulation film is relatively cheap and is used in the same way as mobile phone film.

2. Install soundproof curtains

Soundproof curtains provide soundproofing by completely sealing off the windows. Soundproof curtains are commonly used in places like cinemas, and the effect is quite good.

3. Install window sound insulation seals

Sound insulation sealing strips are only effective for windows with poor sealing and are very cheap. However, you must make sure that the lack of sound insulation is caused by large gaps in the windows, otherwise it will be useless to stick them on. The sealing strip is used to block the gaps in the windows, which has the same function as sound insulation cotton.

4. Add a layer of soundproof windows

Soundproof windows are generally composed of double or triple layers of glass of the same material or different thicknesses and window frames. The glass used is thicker than that of ordinary windows. Some soundproof windows use specially processed sound insulation layers, or have aluminum alloy frames filled with desiccant sandwiched between the sound insulation layers, and the edges are then bonded with sealant to form a synthetic glass component; some use the principle of thermos bottles to make transparent, light-enhancing, balanced, and pressure-resistant flat glass components, fill the window frames with sound-absorbing materials to fully absorb the sound waves of the transparent glass, and can isolate noise of all frequency bands to the greatest extent.

5. Add a layer of ordinary plastic steel window

This method is suitable for situations where outdoor traffic noise is not particularly serious, and if the windowsill in the home is relatively wide, you can install a layer of ordinary plastic steel window on the inside or outside of the original window. Choose plastic steel windows with good sealing properties, and the cavity distance between the two layers of windows should be more than 10 cm. Casement windows are better sealed than sliding windows, so it is best to choose casement windows for additional windows.

6. Convert windows into soundproof windows

If the windowsill in your home is not wide enough, or if you feel that adding a layer of soundproof windows will not provide good ventilation, you can also remove the original windows and replace them with a layer of low-frequency soundproof windows. Double-layer hollow windows are mainly used for sound insulation now. This method can also play a certain role in isolating traffic noise, but in terms of sound insulation effect, it is worse than installing an additional layer of soundproof windows.
