Benefits of Propolis

Benefits of Propolis

Nowadays, people pay more and more attention to health care and health preservation, so various health care products have emerged. Propolis is a substance that is deeply loved by people. Propolis is a yellow or yellowish brown gelatinous substance with an aromatic smell. It tastes a little bitter when eaten. Of course, it is best to eat propolis on an empty stomach.

Propolis Benefits

1. Propolis has antibacterial effects: Propolis can sterilize, kill bacteria, disinfect, inhibit bacteria, prevent mildew and preserve food, which solves the defect that antibiotics only work on a single microorganism and has no side effects. It has a good therapeutic effect on skin diseases in daily life.

2. Propolis can promote tissue cell regeneration, has a good repairing effect on various oral diseases, and can be used to treat gastric ulcers.

3. Prevent tumors. Propolis is rich in anti-cancer substances. Studies have shown that taking propolis can shrink cancer cells and reduce the side effects of chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

4. Propolis can lower both triglycerides and cholesterol.

5. Propolis can eliminate or alleviate menopausal symptoms.

6. Enhance immunity. The human immune system is easily invaded by viruses. Propolis can enhance the body's immunity and strengthen the body's ability to resist viral invasion.

7. It has beauty and skin care effects. Propolis can decompose pigments, smooth wrinkles, slow down aging, etc., and is an excellent beauty product for women.

8. Analgesic effect. Propolis also has a good effect in anesthesia and analgesia.

Nutritional Value of Propolis

1. Propolis is known as "purple gold". A bee colony of 50,000 to 60,000 bees can only produce 70 to 110 grams of propolis a year. Propolis collected from beehives usually contains 55% resin and tree fragrance, about 30% beeswax, 10% aromatic volatile oils and 5% pollen and inclusions.

2. The ingredients contained in propolis are extremely complex, containing more than 300 nutrients in 20 categories, including flavonoids, organic acids, alcohols, phenols, aldehydes, esters, ethers, terpene compounds, as well as a variety of amino acids, enzymes, vitamins and trace elements, etc. It is like a natural "medicine library".

3. Among the ingredients of propolis, the most representative active substances are quercetin in flavonoids, terpenes and caffeic acid phenethyl ester in organic acids.

Quercetin is an active ingredient in many Chinese medicinal materials. It has the effects of dilating coronary blood vessels, lowering blood lipids, and anti-platelet aggregation. It has a synergistic effect with aspirin and is mainly used clinically as a capillary hemostatic drug and auxiliary antihypertensive drug. Terpene ingredients have good bactericidal and anti-inflammatory effects, which can greatly reduce and avoid the occurrence of various diabetic complications. Caffeic acid phenethyl ester has strong anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities and can play an anti-tumor role.

Side Effects of Propolis

1. People with severe allergies should use with caution or stop using

Due to personality differences, about 0.3% of patients experience varying degrees of allergic reactions to propolis liquid (which will not be life-threatening).

For external use of propolis, apply one drop to the affected area daily for one week to test for allergies. For skin redness, swelling, itching and even dermatitis caused by external application, you can use 1%~2% sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) solution to rinse the affected area, and then apply zinc oxide paste or cortisol (prednisone ointment). It will heal in a short time.

For those who experience allergic reactions such as difficulty breathing, night sweats, and nausea after taking propolis internally, the symptoms will generally heal on their own in a short time. Those with severe allergic reactions need to go to the hospital for treatment. If mild itching, skin rash, or swelling of the affected area occurs, you can take desensitizing drugs such as diphenhydramine and the allergic symptoms will disappear. After the allergic symptoms disappear, you can switch to oral administration, which can also achieve good results.

2. Pregnant women are prohibited from taking it: When pregnant women consume propolis, it will stimulate the uterus, cause uterine contractions, and interfere with the normal growth and development of the fetus.

3. It is not suitable for infants under 1 year old to take this product as its active ingredients may affect the normal development of the infant’s immune system. Even if it is necessary to take it, the dosage must be very small. Infants and young children have delicate skin, so when using propolis externally to treat skin diseases, it should be diluted before use.
