How long does it take for wisdom teeth to heal after flushing and applying medicine

If wisdom teeth do not grow normally, many people will choose to have them removed to avoid causing other diseases. This is also the method recommended by dentists. The process of extracting wisdom teeth requires flushing and applying medication. So how long will it take for the wisdom teeth to be flushed and medicated? If it is just inflammation, you can treat it by flushing and applying medicine. However, if the wisdom tooth is already broken or has grown crooked and has affected other teeth, it is best to remove it.

1. What should I use to rinse and apply medicine when my wisdom teeth and gums are inflamed?

Cleaning an inflamed wisdom tooth requires the operation of a doctor, and it is difficult to accurately observe the location of the blind pocket with your own eyes. If wisdom teeth are broken or not in the right position, they can be removed. It will not affect other teeth.

Currently, the materials used for filling teeth are divided into two categories: glass ionomer type, which is only suitable for filling the base, not suitable for permanent refilling, and has a lower cost. (The ionic type is mixed manually) It is a resin type, which is suitable for permanent refilling and requires special light. It has better adhesion and is stronger, but the cost will be higher.

Tooth decay: If the wisdom tooth has tooth decay, except for very simple occlusal surface cavities that are not deep and can be filled, those cavities on the street surface require very good technology, and those that are very deep and even require root canal treatment, we recommend extraction to prevent future problems.

Invasion of adjacent teeth: Usually the patient is unaware of it and the dentist can detect it through X-ray diagnosis. Usually, there is not enough space for wisdom teeth to erupt, and they will fall on the second molars, making the second molars difficult to clean or even partially absorbed, causing discomfort or toothache for the patient.

No opposing teeth: As mentioned earlier, not everyone will have all four wisdom teeth grow. Therefore, if there is no competing wisdom tooth opposite the wisdom tooth, the wisdom tooth may over-erupt and affect the bite.

2. What are the hazards of growing wisdom teeth?

If wisdom teeth fail to grow out, the remaining tooth germs may degenerate and form oral tumors. When there is insufficient space, the tooth germ may absorb the root of the second largest molar in front, reducing its strength and affecting its function.

Causes caries of the second molar. Wisdom teeth and adjacent teeth form a retention area where food residues will be retained. If they are not cleaned properly, bacteria will multiply and produce acid, corroding the teeth and making the neck of the second molar prone to caries.

Impacted wisdom teeth often cannot establish a normal occlusal relationship with the opposing teeth. Over time, this can lead to symptoms such as temporomandibular joint clicking, mouth opening pain, and nocturnal bruxism, which have a great impact on the physical and mental health of young and middle-aged people.

The gum and crown of the wisdom tooth will form a blind pocket. Food residues will remain in the blind pockets, breeding bacteria and irritating the gums, causing gingivitis and pericoronitis of wisdom teeth.

The impaction or dislocation of mandibular wisdom teeth often causes occlusal interference with the maxillary second molars and leads to pathological retraction of the mandible, which is one of the causes of craniomandibular disorders. The main clinical manifestations are clicking, pain and abnormal mandibular movement in the temporomandibular joint, pain in the masticatory muscles, tinnitus, tongue pain and other symptoms. Many patients have achieved significant therapeutic effects after removing impacted or misplaced wisdom teeth due to blocking the potential factors that induce craniomandibular disorders.

3. Precautions before and after wisdom tooth extraction

The doctor gives the patient a gauze roll or cotton ball to put on the tooth extraction wound in the patient's mouth. The patient should bite it gently and spit it out after 40 minutes. The purpose of biting the gauze roll is, first, to apply pressure to stop bleeding; second, to isolate saliva, so that the blood in the wound can coagulate, which is conducive to early healing of the wound.

After spitting out the gauze roll, do not talk or laugh loudly, or spit or spit forcefully on the same day; do not lick the wound with your tongue; never use your fingers or toothpicks to pick out the purple-gray blood clot on the wound, and do not suck on the wound, so as not to destroy the blood clot and cause bleeding. You can eat porridge, soft food or liquid food 2 hours after tooth extraction, but you cannot chew with the affected side; the food should not be too hot or too hard, and you should avoid drinking alcohol, smoking, and eating spicy food to prevent the dilation of blood vessels in the mouth and congestion of the mucosa, which may cause bleeding from the wound.

Within 24 hours after wisdom tooth extraction, there may be a small amount of blood in the saliva. This is normal, so don't be afraid. Because fear can increase blood pressure and increase the chance of bleeding. If there is a lot of bleeding, don't panic. Find a small piece of sterilized gauze or cotton ball, put it on the bleeding wound and bite it, then go to the dental department for emergency treatment.

The incision from a tooth extraction usually heals within 3-6 days. If the tooth extraction wound is still bleeding and painful 5 days later, you should go to the hospital for a follow-up examination and timely treatment.
