What are the clinical manifestations of colon cancer?

In our daily life, the incidence of colon cancer in my country has an increasing trend, second only to gastric cancer, liver cancer, and esophageal cancer. It is more common in adults. Compared with other digestive tract cancers, it grows slower and metastasizes later. About half of colorectal cancers occur in the rectum, followed by the sigmoid colon, cecum, ascending colon, descending colon, and transverse colon. The cause of the disease is related to colon adenoma, polyposis, and chronic inflammatory lesions. Therefore, it is necessary for us to pay attention to the clinical manifestations of colon cancer.

1. Early symptoms

In the earliest stage, there may be abdominal distension, discomfort, and indigestion-like symptoms, followed by changes in bowel habits, such as increased bowel movements, diarrhea or constipation, and abdominal pain before defecation. Later, there may be mucus in the stool or mucopurulent blood in the stool.

(B) Symptoms of poisoning: Due to the blood loss from tumor ulceration and the absorption of toxins, patients often experience anemia, low fever, fatigue, weight loss, edema, etc., among which anemia and weight loss are particularly prominent.

(III) Intestinal obstruction is manifested by incomplete or complete low-level intestinal obstruction symptoms, such as abdominal distension, abdominal pain (distension or colic), constipation or constipation. Physical examination can reveal abdominal distension, intestinal type, local tenderness, and audible hyperactive bowel sounds.

(IV) The abdominal mass is a tumor or a mass that has infiltrated and adhered to the omentum and surrounding tissues. It is hard and irregular in shape. Some of them may have a certain degree of mobility along the intestinal tract. In the late stage, the tumor infiltration is more severe and the mass may be fixed.

(V) Late-stage symptoms include jaundice, ascites, edema and other signs of liver metastasis, as well as cachexia, a mass in the anterior rectal fossa, supraclavicular lymph node enlargement and other manifestations of distant tumor spread and metastasis.

The clinical characteristics of left- and right-sided colon cancers are different due to their differences in physiology, anatomy, and pathology.

Right colon cancer The right colon cavity is wider, the stool is thinner, the colon is rich in blood and lymph, the absorption capacity is strong, the tumor is mostly soft, easy to ulcerate, necrotize and cause bleeding and infection, so the clinical manifestations are mainly poisoning symptoms. However, when the condition worsens, intestinal obstruction may also occur.

Left-sided colon cancer The left-sided colon cavity is relatively narrow, and the stool is already thick and viscous. In addition, this part is mostly invasive cancer, and the intestinal cavity is often annularly narrow. Therefore, clinical symptoms of intestinal obstruction appear earlier, and some may even have acute obstruction. The symptoms of poisoning are mild and appear late.

The above are the symptoms of colon cancer. Experts suggest: If your health shows symptoms of the disease, you can choose the appropriate treatment according to your symptoms, but do not delay the diagnosis, and do not let your life be ruined in hesitation. You should go to a regular hospital for treatment in time to avoid delaying the disease and causing serious consequences.
