Tinnitus may be caused by nasopharyngeal cancer

As people age, they will have some degree of blurry eyesight and hearing loss. There are many possible causes of tinnitus, which can be a minor problem that does not hurt or itch, or it can be fatal nasopharyngeal cancer.

Understanding Tinnitus

Tinnitus usually refers to the subjective feeling of sound produced in the ear or head when there is no corresponding external sound source or electrical stimulation. The feeling that the sound source is located in the brain is also called brain tinnitus. Tinnitus is just a common clinical symptom, it is not a disease. The causes of tinnitus are very complicated. Common ones include drug-induced tinnitus, noise-induced tinnitus, toxicity, infection, allergy, drug ototoxicity and systemic diseases, etc., but its specific pathogenesis is not very clear.

How does nasopharyngeal cancer cause tinnitus?

Because the pharyngeal opening of the Eustachian tube opens into the nasopharynx, secretory disease may occur when the tumor growing in the pharyngeal recess or the occipital region of the Eustachian tube infiltrates and compresses the pharyngeal opening of the Eustachian tube.

Symptoms and signs of otitis media - tinnitus, hearing loss, etc. Because the Eustachian tube is the only channel for the middle ear to communicate with the external environment. Under normal circumstances, the air pressure inside and outside the middle ear is basically equal. When the Eustachian tube has ventilation dysfunction due to various reasons, the gas in the middle ear is absorbed by the mucosa, and negative pressure appears in the middle ear, which leads to venous dilation of the middle ear mucosa, increased permeability, serum leakage and accumulation in the middle ear, thus forming middle ear effusion. Hearing loss occurs due to the impact on middle ear conduction, which may change with changes in body position, mild ear pain, tinnitus, ear stuffiness and occlusion.
