How do patients with laryngeal cancer keep their oral cavity clean

Oral hygiene is very important for the recovery of laryngeal cancer patients, because many pathogens enter the body through the mouth. Some patients have difficulty eating and drinking, which causes bacteria in the mouth to multiply and cause oral diseases. Maintaining good oral hygiene is conducive to early recovery.

Laryngeal cancer patients who can take care of themselves

Laryngeal cancer patients who can take care of themselves should develop good brushing habits in the morning, evening and after meals, and choose a small, smooth and soft toothbrush. They should also master the correct brushing method to protect their teeth and mucous membranes. If oral infection occurs, special mouthwash should be used to rinse the mouth and the number of mouthwashes should be increased; if vomiting occurs, the mouth should be rinsed with warm water after vomiting.

Laryngeal cancer patients who cannot take care of themselves

For those who cannot take care of themselves, family members should help to clean their mouths. The movements should be gentle to ensure the safety of the patients. The correct oral care method is: use a cotton ball soaked in mouthwash to scrub the left side of the teeth, scrub along the teeth longitudinally, and scrub from the inside to the outside to the front teeth. Do the same on the right side, and also on the tongue surface, gums, mucosa and other parts.

The cotton ball used for scrubbing should not be too wet to prevent the mouthwash from being inhaled into the trachea by the patient. Be careful not to leave the cotton ball in the mouth. Be extra careful during the operation to avoid injuring the patient's oral mucosa or gums and causing infection. When scrubbing, family members should pay attention to observe the situation in the mouth, such as whether there is a foul odor, garlic smell, bleeding, ulcers, and whether large pieces of mucosa have fallen off.
