Is pancreatic cancer related to genetics?

Is pancreatic cancer related to genetics?

As we all know, pancreatic cancer is the "king of cancers", with a one-year survival rate of 8% and a five-year survival rate of 3%. In my country, the five-year survival rate of pancreatic cancer patients is less than 1%. Many people can't help but worry whether their next generation will suffer from such a terrible disease after they have cancer. So, is pancreatic cancer hereditary? The answer is yes.

Hereditary nature of pancreatic cancer

Genetic predisposition

Medical research shows that about one in ten pancreatic cancer patients are hereditary. For every direct relative who has pancreatic cancer, the risk of pancreatic cancer increases by 40%. For families with more than two family members who have pancreatic cancer, if other family members quit smoking, the risk of pancreatic cancer can be greatly reduced.

Familial pancreatic cancer

Familial pancreatic cancer is an established hereditary tumor syndrome, accounting for about 3% of all pancreatic cancers. The vertical relationship shown in most FPC families suggests the possibility of autosomal dominant inheritance. Research on FPC will help to identify high-risk groups for pancreatic cancer, including other family members with pancreatic cancer and other hereditary tumor syndromes.

Whether it is the statistical results of epidemiology, the disease manifestations of pancreatic cancer, or even the discovery of family genetic genes, all of these indicate that pancreatic cancer has a family genetic tendency. Therefore, people with relatives suffering from pancreatic cancer need to pay special attention to it and should go to the hospital for regular physical examinations, or even do PET-CT examinations to prevent pancreatic cancer.
