What are the typical symptoms of pituitary tumors

Pituitary tumor is one of the main tumors occurring in the brain, ranking among the top. After the onset of pituitary tumor, some typical symptoms will appear, such as amenorrhea, headache, decreased vision, etc. in female friends. These are very obvious symptoms. So, what are the typical symptoms of pituitary tumor? Let's take a look at the following introduction.

Since there are many types of pituitary tumors, we mainly introduce several common pituitary tumor symptoms for you:

1. Prolactin-secreting pituitary tumors - account for 80-85% of pituitary tumors, and female patients are 5 times more than male patients. Symptoms of this type of pituitary tumor include: irregular menstruation, amenorrhea, galactorrhea, and infertility in women: adolescent or married women have longer menstrual cycles or even amenorrhea, breast galactorrhea, and infertility after marriage. Changes in male sexual function: low libido, impotence, lack of beard growth, thin voice, infertility, etc.

2. Growth hormone secretion type - changes in the patient's face, limbs and body shape: Adults show broad hands and feet, broad head and face, enlarged nose, thickened lips, increased hair, and symptoms such as hoarseness, snoring during sleep and sleep apnea syndrome.

3. ACTH secretion type - central obesity: patients will accumulate fat in the chest, abdomen, and buttocks. Their limbs are relatively thin, showing "central obesity". Their faces are full moon-shaped, their weight increases significantly, and subcutaneous blood vessels in their limbs are exposed and purple lines appear.

4. Non-functional pituitary adenoma - Most of them have no symptoms in the early stage. When the diameter of the pituitary tumor is greater than 1 cm, severe headache may occur due to compression of the diaphragm sellae. The pain is mainly located behind the eye sockets, in the forehead and near the temples on both sides. If it develops forward and upward, it may compress the optic chiasm and cause decreased vision and visual field defects, mainly bilateral superior temporal hemianopsia.

The common symptoms of pituitary tumors are the ones listed above. Although most of them are not characteristic, you should not underestimate them. If these symptoms occur, please seek medical attention as soon as possible. If a pituitary tumor is confirmed, the patient should consider appropriate treatment methods as soon as possible.
