What are the dangers of smoking for teenagers? Quitting smoking as early as possible will be good for your health

Smoking is very harmful, but not everyone is still smoking, and more and more teenagers have learned to smoke. Smoking among teenagers will affect the brain, causing headaches and dizziness, which can easily affect daily work and study. It is necessary to quit smoking in time.

1. It is widely acknowledged that smoking is harmful to human health, and it is even more harmful to teenagers. According to medical research, adolescents are in a period of growth and development, their physiological systems and organs are not yet mature, their resistance to harmful factors in the external environment is weaker than that of adults, and they are prone to absorb toxins that damage the normal growth of the body. According to a survey in 25 states in the United States, the age at which smoking begins is negatively correlated with lung cancer mortality. If the lung cancer mortality rate of non-smokers is 1.00, the mortality rate for those who start smoking before the age of 15 is 19.68; for those aged 20 to 24, it is 10.08; and for those aged 25 and above, it is 4.08. This shows that the earlier the age of smoking starts, the higher the incidence and mortality of lung cancer.

2. Smoking damages the brain and affects intelligence. Tobacco smoke contains high levels of carbon monoxide. After being inhaled into the human body, it combines with hemoglobin in the blood to form carboxyhemoglobin, which prevents hemoglobin from combining with oxygen normally to form oxyhemoglobin, and thus loses its oxygen-carrying function. In addition, carbon monoxide binds to hemoglobin 260 times more strongly than oxygen, and the rate at which carbon monoxide dissociates from carboxyhemoglobin is much slower than the rate at which oxygen is separated from oxyhemoglobin. Because the human brain has a large demand for oxygen and is very sensitive to hypoxia, smoking too much will make you feel unfocused and even experience headaches and dizziness. Over time, the brain will be damaged, causing thinking to become slow and memory to decline. This will inevitably affect study and work, and cause students' academic performance to decline.

3. Nicotine in tobacco is a neurotoxin that mainly damages the human nervous system. Some smokers subjectively feel that smoking can relieve fatigue, boost spirits, etc. This is a transient excitement of the nervous system, which is actually the euphoria caused by nicotine. After the excitement, the nervous system immediately becomes inhibited. Therefore, the sensitivity and accuracy of neuromuscular responses decrease after smoking. A study conducted by a foreign psychological research institute showed that smokers' intellectual efficiency is 10.6% lower than that of non-smokers.
