Estradiol is the most active hormone among estrogens and changes with the female menstrual cycle. Many people do not know how much estradiol is considered normal. Generally speaking, the estrogen levels in men and women are different, and the estrogen levels in different time periods are also different. 1. What is estradiol? Estradiol (E2) is a steroid hormone that is mainly secreted by ovarian follicles, corpus luteum and placenta during pregnancy. It is the most important and biologically active hormone among estrogens. Estradiol mainly promotes the transformation of the endometrium into the proliferative phase and promotes the development of female secondary sexual characteristics. Therefore, estradiol plays an important role in maintaining the growth of female reproductive organs, breasts, long bones and female sexual characteristics. Checking estradiol in blood and urine is of certain value in diagnosing endocrine and gynecological diseases such as precocious puberty and dysplasia. 2. Normal value of estradiol The normal value of estradiol is different for men and women. The estradiol level is related to the menstrual cycle and has periodic changes in different periods such as the follicular phase, ovulation phase, luteal phase, and menopause. The normal values of estradiol at different times are as follows: 1. Radioimmunoassay (RIA): (1) Male: 110-264.2 pmol/L. (2) Female: follicular phase 132-220 pmol/L; ovulation phase 1431-2972 pmol/L; luteal phase 403.7-1123 pmol/L; menopausal phase 40.3-55.1 pmol/L. 2. Time-resolved fluorescence immunoassay (TRFIA): (1) Male: 0-1.6nmol/L. (2) Female: follicular phase 0.1-0.61nmol/L; ovulation phase 0.57-1.62nmol/L; luteal phase 0.2-0.73nmol/L; menopause 0-0.16nmol/L; pregnancy (7-9 months) 20-130nmol/L. (3) Urine: 0-11 nmol/24h during follicular phase; 15-51 nmol/24h during ovulation phase; 15-37 nmol/24h during luteal phase; 0-15 nmol/24h during menopause. 3. Low estradiol Low estradiol refers to the estradiol content being lower than normal due to ovarian disease, central nervous system disorders, irregular menstruation, etc. Causes of low estradiol include: 1. Ovarian diseases: ovarian absence or hypoplasia, primary ovarian failure, ovarian cysts. 2. Hypothalamic and pituitary diseases: pituitary amenorrhea or infertility. 3. Irregular menstruation: Irregular menstruation leads to endocrine disorders in the human body, causing the hormones in the human body to lose balance and fail to meet the standards required by the body. 4. Others: Hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism, Cushing's syndrome, Addison's disease, malignant tumors, large-scale infections, renal insufficiency, focal lesions of the brain and pituitary gland, etc. can all reduce estradiol. |
