Diagnostic methods for early pituitary tumors

Diagnostic methods for early pituitary tumors

There are many patients with pituitary tumors now, but many people feel that they cannot survive when they hear that they have pituitary tumors. They always think that tumors are fatal. In fact, any disease is not terminal if treated in the early stages. Today we will learn about the diagnosis methods of early pituitary tumors.

What are the diagnostic methods for pituitary tumors? The main ones are as follows:

1. Clinical manifestations: Based on the above, it is not difficult to diagnose pituitary tumors in combination with the symptoms of pituitary tumors. For example, if there is amenorrhea, lactation, and a significant increase in prolactin, and the MRI shows that the tumor is 2 cm in diameter, it is diagnosed as a macroprolactinoma of the pituitary gland. If the patient has acromegaly, diabetes, and increased serum growth hormone, the MRI shows that the pituitary gland is enlarged, and the diagnosis of growth hormone adenoma is clear. If there is visual impairment, bilateral temporal hemianopsia in the visual field, low levels of adrenal, gonadal, and thyroid hormones, and no abnormal increase in prolactin and growth hormone, the MRI shows that the tumor is 4 cm, and it is diagnosed as a giant non-functional pituitary adenoma.

2. What are the diagnostic methods for pituitary tumors? Endocrine examination: The current endocrine indicators for diagnosing functional pituitary adenomas are: serum PRL>30μg/L, serum GH>5μg/L, UFC>80μg/24 hours, ACTH>40pg/ml. Since endocrine hormones are affected by internal and external factors and have rhythmic changes, patients with increased blood GH levels should undergo a glucose GH suppression test; those with increased cortisol should undergo a dexamethasone suppression test to assist in a clear diagnosis. There are many reasons for high prolactin, but the higher the prolactin, the more likely it is that a pituitary tumor has been diagnosed.

Warm reminder: Pituitary tumor is not a minor disease. Patients with pituitary tumors should pay attention to this disease and pay more attention to the causes. This disease has nothing to do with age and is more common in children or adolescents. It should be treated reasonably. Psychological care is also very important in the lives of patients with pituitary tumors.
