Is high transferase a liver disease?

When we do a physical examination, one of the items we usually check is transferase. If someone has high transferase levels, it should be a serious situation, because some liver diseases can cause high transferase levels in the human body. Therefore, we usually use drugs to lower transferase, treat the symptoms of high transferase, and avoid serious liver disease. But does high transferase mean liver disease? What should be going on?

What is the cause of high transferase

1. Reason 1 for high transferase: viral hepatitis

Viral hepatitis is the most common cause of elevated ALT levels. CPT may increase in patients with all types of acute and chronic viral hepatitis, but the extent of the increase is not proportional to the degree of liver damage. The severity of the disease cannot be determined by the CPT value.

2. Reason 2 for high transferase: heart disease

Heart diseases such as acute myocardial infarction, myocarditis, and heart failure are also causes of elevated alanine aminotransferase and aspartate alanine aminotransferase. Patients often have chest pain, palpitations, shortness of breath, and edema. Cardiac examination showed positive signs and abnormal electrocardiogram.

3. Reason 3 for high transferase: Excessive drinking

Drinking large amounts of alcohol or drinking for a long time can also cause high levels of alanine aminotransferase. In fact, many liver diseases are caused by excessive drinking. Since the liver itself has no nerves, liver disease does not cause pain and it is difficult to detect symptoms of early liver disease. Therefore, patients with high alanine aminotransferase levels are not likely to find symptoms in the early stages of the disease.

4. Reason 4 for high transferase: Abuse of health products and supplements

Many health products and supplements can increase alanine aminotransferase.

5. Reason 5 for high transferase: Physiological increase

Pregnancy, fatigue, exercise, mood deterioration, psychological stress, endocrine disorders, and insufficient blood supply to the heart, liver, and brain can all increase alanine aminotransferase.

6. Reason 6 for high transferase: drug-induced increase

At present, more than 100 kinds of drugs have been found to increase alanine aminotransferase, including psychiatric drugs (chlorpromazine, etc.), anti-tuberculosis drugs (rifampicin, etc.), anti-inflammatory and antibacterial drugs (tetracycline, gentamicin, chloramphenicol, etc.), contraceptives and some traditional Chinese medicines.
